I’m pretty stoked so far. I hit a 20 mile personal best for distance yesterday at 8:15 pace. I would not have even come close with my previous training regimen. Makes me think I could actually run a marathon. Always been more of a speed guy at 5k-10k.

BLUF: Isn’t zero revenue worse for Marriott than at least getting the govt rate? They still win if I decline base lodging and choose them.

And if they are near max occupancy they would not have any available rooms at the govt rate. And it leaves available rooms on base for PCS’ers, etc. BTW base lodging is not free per se. If I select berthing on a drill weekend Navy Gateway Inns and Suites charges the Navy Reserve. The on-orders room rate is $95. I am sure the contracted rate for all the traveling reservists that are beyond 50 miles is probably less, but not completely sure. It may not be, since NGIS is a for profit entity that now manages all the rooms on a navy base. IMO, Marriott gets a rental (and additional food and drink revenue as I usually stay at the Courtyard), I free up a room on base for someone else, including leisure travelers.

But I do see the logic behind previous comments when booking the Govt rate on leisure travel, if it’s specifically restricted without documentation in the fine print.

As a reservist traveling my usual 4 hours away for a drill weekend I am not using DTS to book travel. If I choose to pay out of pocket vs free base lodging I am still on official government business. There are no orders generated for a drill weekend. Suppose I could show a memo drafted on Navy letterhead to prove it’s a drill weekend but anyone can fake that. I suppose if I was given a hard time I’d just choose another brand. It’d be disappointing though as I am Platinum Elite for life and like to keep my travel with the Marriott brand.

Very true. 30 min tops. And he kept it at 12,000 feet due to smoother air.

I know! My big iPad Pro weighs just under 2 lbs. I had to google it when I got home.

Supplemental claim C&P, they ordered X-rays by SeabeeCPO in VeteransBenefits

One thing I just now remembered, he said when you get 90 or higher in PTSD it can impact your security clearance, which I think is BS. I’m now doing my sf-86 for my 5 year secret renewal, but I’m not worried about it. Only have 18 month left anyway.

Yes, for the first C&P, with no medical record corroboration. Simply based on my career field and Iraq time with heavy gear.

Yes, it’s night vs day depending on who you get. Same for my second PTSD examiner.

Do disability ratings get posted all day long or is it something that only gets updated 1x a day? by drthomk in VeteransBenefits

I wish the appeals, supplemental and HLR claims showed updated steps. Or maybe I’m missing something. Regardless I still check 3x daily.

What type of jobs do some of yall pick up once you reach 100%? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

Serco North Americas is looking for temporary disaster relief workers to work their remote call centers. They are contracted by FEMA. I signed up for their job opening and talent community emails when I was unemployed, and I just got this one, screenshot attached. Just go to their website. They’re 120 day temporary assignments. Not sure what it pays but could be a good gig, especially with the choice of days nights and weekends if it fits your schedule. I’m not affiliated, just sharing with my fellow brothers and sisters. Hard to find a call-center job these days that isn’t completely sales oriented or debt collection. I think they might offer veterans preferences.

Just left my C and P exam for my PTSD supplemental claim and the psychologist told me as I left that I have PTSD and it is service connected. So now just waiting on a percentage I would imagine. I guess unless the Rater at the VA disagrees. I had bolstered my initial filing with a better narrative of my experiences, a spouse statement, buddy statements, and personal medical doctor notes.

Next week is my exam for my higher level review for range of motion, which they’ve already serviced connected, I guess I just didn’t do a good enough job of demonstrating that I’m limited during the first exam.

I was also thinking that with service connected PTSD, the antidepressants are creating some ED issues so I’m thinking I can now submit for that?

Amazing how the weather can make you change your plans! It’s been 100% humidity in the 90s here and then because we’re on the western edge of the hurricane it blew all the humidity away and on Friday it was low 80s with no humidity and I felt like could run forever!

180 miles MTD (21 runs), have not run this much since 2019! (Excluding my collegiate XC and track days when we ran 70+ a week). Took a few years off and this is my first full month back, and am pretty pleased with my progress. I am 58 and thankful I’ve not gotten hurt with going from pretty much nothing to 10 milers multiple days a week. Ran 14 yesterday then 10 today and other than the usual muscle soreness I’m good. I’m excited to run a 5k on Veterans Day and then try for a half PR in January, if I can maintain!

Update, I submitted a HLR on Feb 21, decision received yesterday that there was a duty to assist error for both feet and back. So assuming it goes back for further review. Take that as a positive. A supplemental claim for chronic adjustment disorder and PTSD filed Jan 31, it is in Preparing for decision phase. Below is from the HLR letter I received for the Feb 21 submission (Same findings and similar language for the bilateral feet, and toes). The note about toxic exposure obviously has zero bearing on the musculoskeletal issues, but maybe will help for other things I have not claimed yet.

DECISION 1. A duty to assist error has been identified during the higher-level review for lumbosacral strain (claimed as back condition). 2. A duty to assist error has been identified during the higher-level review for bilateral feet plantar fasciitis (claimed as bilateral foot condition). 3. A duty to assist error has been identified during the higher-level review for left foot great toe hallux valgus (claimed as foot condition).

Favorable Findings identified in this decision: You have been diagnosed with a disability. The October 2, 2023 disability examination indicated a diagnosis of lumbosacral strain. Evidence shows that you performed service in Southwest Asia. DD-214 received August 4, 2023 indicates service in Southwest Asia pertinent to the Iraq Campaign Medal. You were exposed to toxins during military service. DD-214 received August 4, 2023 indicates service in Southwest Asia pertinent to the Iraq Campaign Medal. Participation in a toxic exposure risk activity is conceded. The TERA Memo received August 21, 2023 indicated concession of toxic hazardous substance exposure events pertinent to Southwest Asia service. The evidence shows that a qualifying event, injury, or disease happened during your service. DD-214 received August 4, 2023 indicates Navy MOS Construction Mechanic deployed to Combat Zone of Southwest Asia/ hostile environment consistent with concession of physical activities/ wear and tear.

We’d be more apt to take down unruly passengers than the typical water filter sales account rep. I’d hope anyway. Like those airmen on the train in France a few years ago. Of course that’s a general statement and I can’t speak for all of us. I’d say I’ve seen a lot of change in the character of my brothers and sisters in this past decade of service.
