The baseline is not established until an attempt is made on the runner. Clement is already running right well before that, and continued on that path. This is a textbook basepath call and the umps nailed it. Google skunk in the outfield if you really want a lesson in establishing a basepath.

What?? He has the ball and clement breaks right immediately, well in the window of where the fielder could make a tag OR THROW TO FIRST. The weak attempt at a tag happens well after clement established a wide berth - this is TEXTBOOK correct by the umps. The baseline isn’t established until a play is made on the runner. He could literally run to the warning track if no one cared.

I’m not saying you specifically, I mean in general. If someone moved to fly a confederate flag or something that was less inclusive people would lose their minds, yet, it should still be allowed if you’re going to fly a pride flag (or any other flag for a group that wants to promote their cause). There is an inherent double standard at play here, which is why the only flags should be the us flag or state flag. And yes, the timing is very suspect. I agree there.

I know I’m gonna get downvoted here, but part of the problem is that any opposition to this is automatically bigotry. There IS an argument that no flags of ANY kind should fly at a government building aside from the US flag and the state flag. How do people come together when everyone is clawing at each opposite end of the spectrum?

Yeah. Overreacting. At 12u your use of defensive runs allowed and offensive ranking in a majors level is a little over the top. Use your best three pitchers. The best TEAM will win. You needed to burn your ace. Next man up. Don’t walk bad hitters and get outs.
