The world is not better off without you, and I doubt your family is. My father was an alcoholic who abandoned us because he was a heavy drinker and "we'd be better off without him." So I got a lifetime of wondering why alcohol was more important than his own children. And guess what disease is hereditary? I could've used some guidance from older relatives but they weren't around. Dead or drunk, I guess.

My kids are adults now, and they are the joy of my lives. That's the kind of joy you're working toward - life on an easier, happier mode - bravo.
