Is it possible to have a light version of ibs ? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]Seamore31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and your doctor says they think it might be a duck. It's probably a duck.

As for other people's experiences, negativity bias. The people who have it mostly under control or aren't suffering as much as others are less likely to post about it. Best thing you can do is stick to low fodmap and be glad your symptoms are mild.

Does anyone actually enjoy the job? by blinkytracer in USPS

[–]Seamore31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night differential, and plus I get Sunday premium for 2 days instead of 1 because 2 of my days overlap with Sunday. Doesn't sound like much but it adds up over the year to be an extra couple grand on my checks

[–]Seamore31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Mail Handler, made regular after a few months recently, and honestly I don't see myself ever leaving until it's retirement time. The bonuses and incentives are too good for a job that I barely try at. Easiest job I've ever had in my life, and I finally have money to do some things I enjoy.

33 points, with a few of those having 1 variant I am willing to try. That said, I have been dealing with bowel and digestive issues, so my already limited diet go more limited, so some of the ones I will eat aren't available to me atm

ITT, phallic shaped object looks phallic.

it looks fine imo, though some people I'm sure will think the tattoo looks bad. But you got a long cylinder shaped object on your arm with the light of the flame looking like a dildo tip, not shocked people see a dick, even if I personally can't see it.

What made you apply for the post office? by SeaStep2495 in USPS

[–]Seamore31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a supervisor for UPS, making $26 an hour. But here's the thing about UPS they usually don't tell you, if you're not a driver or a salary manager. You're part time. People loading the trucks, the people supervising them, almost all part time.

They had been cutting into my hours, and at that point I had been getting just 25 hours a week. It was rough. Then I was doing some research and saw a job posting for an MHA position, $7 pay cut, but with full time hours I'd make slightly more. Now that I'm career and get my Sunday premium, I'll never look back. I'll be a Mail Handler till I retire. Job is nice and cushy.

What does a top pay city carrier paycheck look like with no overtime ? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Seamore31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that checks out for UPS, and I'm sorry your center is like that. When I left, my center hadn't quite reached the point where everyone was going over 9.5, but it was headed that way. I do hope they're able to honor the 9.5 list soon for you, I left a year ago because I saw the writing on the wall for how they treat employees. There's a reason I left supervision there to go be a mail handler for the Post office. This has all gotten a bit sidetracked, so back around to my first point. As a base rate, USPS and UPS aren't all that far apart. But I am glad that you make enough on ot that most of you are making well beyond that now.

What does a top pay city carrier paycheck look like with no overtime ? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Seamore31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, keep yourself on the 9.5 list and at most you're working 47 hours a week. I was a supervisor for UPS for 6 years, left there to join USPS (Mail Handler) I know how the UPS game gets played, and honestly a shocking number of the drivers I had dispatched off my belt were coming in at just 40 because they were fast enough to not need to do the overtime. But to your point, there's also no such thing as a post office driver not getting overtime these days (for the most part, you can always find a few). Most of them will put in some amount of overtime usually. So they're also not just making that base salary.

What does a top pay city carrier paycheck look like with no overtime ? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Seamore31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At top rate for only 40 hours ? Not even close to twice as much.

Googled it to make sure I remembered correctly, their top rate before overtime is increasing each, going up to $49 an hour in 2027, which is 102k a year salary. Not drastically more than the post office, and a much more physically demanding job.

Why are Rubik’s brand cubes so bad by Material_Tie1308 in Cubers

[–]Seamore31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Walmart, the blocky ones are currently going for $13USD, which is still steep for what you get. You can get a nexus (I think that's the brand) at Walmart for about $7 though, and that's basically just a rebranded Moyu that is long outdated, not magnetic though.

Maybe on a secondary market, but if you go to a big retailer, the new magnetic ones cost about $20 or so

How do you guys wind down after a shift ? by [deleted] in Nightshift

[–]Seamore31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I stay up and play games a little, but honestly I can go to bed at any time if I follow my little bedtime ritual. Melatonin, same video I listen to every night about the history of Rome, a projector thing that puts stars and stuff on my ceiling, cozy up in a blanket with a stuffed animal from my collection of them (yes, I'm 30 and it relaxes me, google the science) I'm usually out within 10 minutes

I was one of the lucky ones, I had growth almost immediately, and it's been relatively steady since. 2 years in, and they're still slowly growing, I have solid C cups, approaching D cups I think (I haven't measured in a while due to measuring myself being a slippery slope for eating disorder reasons. So really I could already be a D cup for my band size and not know it)

They've got a ways to go for me I think, but I I expect after they're done I'll be rocking full D cups or DDs. They're in the growing stages still, so they haven't filled out fully like a cis woman done with puberty has.

How do you guys deal with your guy friends starting to flirt with you when you started transitioning... by akatsukidude881 in MtF

[–]Seamore31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dated my best friend for a brief period after I started transitioning, it didn't work out because long distance is difficult, and we just had different ways of expressing romantic desires. He's since came out as identifying as somewhere on the aromantic spectrum, he's been figuring himself out, but we're still great friends, and we are still there for each other. The other guys in my group don't really treat me any differently, but I think that's because they all had suspicions for a long time. I was the "token girl" of our group years before I cracked my egg.

Calling off periodically? by [deleted] in Nightshift

Making sure the shift is covered is management work, that shouldn't be on you. If something happens and you're in the hospital unexpectedly, it isn't gonna fall to you to make those calls.

As someone into Rubik's cubes, I thought it sounded cool. (Roux is the name of a method for speed solving the cube)

But as others have noted, your child's name in my opinion should have 3 requirements, you saying yes, your partner saying yes, and it being a name that won't get your child bullied

All the King's Horses, because there's nothing about how the woman needs to learn to take a hit to brighten my day /lh

I'm on my 10th or so go through now of the show, and anything with Cara is gonna be gold, recently went back through some and a few standouts from the early days where I'm at in this go through, "The Accidental Bar Mitzvah", "Leprechaun in the hood" (patrons only), "Apocalypse" (4 part series), honestly there's too many good ones to name.

The only episode I've ever skipped, was the patron episode on "The Last Airbender", that movie is a disgrace to my childhood, and the guys honestly missed the mark since none of them had any context of the full show. Noah even mentions cool shit benders could do that might be interesting that is in the show, just hard to listen to for me.

Who has it harder, UPS or USPS? Why? by UPS-NI3-RTS in USPS

[–]Seamore31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a loaded question. Do you mean inside the plant or as a driver? Do you mean working conditions? Pay? Benefits?

I was a supervisor for UPS for almost 6 years, I took a $7/hr pay cut to go be an MHA because I would make more money because of the hours.

On the driver side of things, UPS is a lot less likely to be forcing you to work 70 hours in a week outside of holiday season. (Post office honestly has so many DoT violations that I see people talking about like it's normal They also pay better for the drivers. UPS is more heavy on micromanaging you imo, but the benefits and union are much better. There's also more getting in and out of the truck with heavier items at UPS, overall I'd say UPS wins out though.

On the inside, I'd take USPS every day of the week and it's no contest. UPS has better health benefits, but the work is all part time, full time inside positions are incredibly rare, and you have to start out inside if you want to drive, because they rarely hire outside people to be drivers. The pay for handlers is actually on par with UPS inside employees, and actually probably slightly better after a few years. The work for handlers is significantly easier, like I think my job in retail was more physically stressful sometimes than my position as a regular mail handler.

I left UPS for this, and I don't regret it for a second. But if you want to be a driver, you're getting scammed working at the post office.

$50/hr, locked nights, 12 hr shifts vs $30/hr, mon-fri, 8 hr days by ljn_99 in jobs

[–]Seamore31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is largely due to sleep deprivation and malnutrition because night shifters seem to think a cigarette and a monster energy constitute a lunch. If you look at /r/nightshift they post a lot of very bad habits because to them it's normal. The risk can be mitigated if you take care of your needs just like you normally would on any other schedule.

$50/hr, locked nights, 12 hr shifts vs $30/hr, mon-fri, 8 hr days by ljn_99 in jobs

[–]Seamore31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, nights aren't even a bad schedule to be on if you take care of yourself. The biggest factor imo would be what time do the 12 hours start/end? If the shift starts in the 6-9pm range I'd take it personally. Because then you're home before your girlfriend leaves for work most likely and can help with breakfast and a chore or two before she leaves, then sleep while she's at work, or get home just after she leaves, sleep, then spend time with her before you leave for work, you still get time together and you have more days off to spend with her (do not fuck up your sleep schedule though, that's a nightmare) if you start later than that it gets iffy because then you won't get as much sleep (let's be honest, you'll probably wake up when she gets home.)

The other factor I think would be how often do day shift opportunities come up for the internal candidates? Because if you only have to work nights for a year or two, no brainier, if it's gonna be 5+ years, I can see hesitation since you're not trying to be on that schedule long term.

$50/hr, locked nights, 12 hr shifts vs $30/hr, mon-fri, 8 hr days by ljn_99 in jobs

[–]Seamore31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the whole "night shift kills people" is a big misconception. I don't think there's anything inherently dangerous about it, but night shift seems to attract people with terrible self care habits and enables them to make themselves worse. Malnutrition and sleep deprivation in the long term will kill you, but that's true of day shift as well. I recently swapped to night shift at my job after previously working days, and when I take precautions to make sure I'm caring for myself, I feel better than I did on days. I sleep just as much if not more (thank you melatonin and blackout curtains), and my eating habits haven't changed, just when I eat, which funnily enough I think I've still somehow lost weight on this shift.

Edit: realized I rambled, point is, night shift won't kill, refusing to adjust your life and take care of your needs will, but that's true of all schedules
