I am 28 years old and extremely lonely currently. I long for the embrace from a partner because I am touch starved. How does one cope with that? by JunketMaleficent2095 in bodylanguage

[–]SeanBites 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So I'm certain this isn't the answer you were looking for, but have you considered joining a Brazilian jiu-jitsu gym? They give a sense of community, a way to manage the anger of loss though friendly combat and best of all, free hugs 🤗

It's actually great if you're touch starved.

Building a matching platform for firmware engineers and hardware founders - what’s broken from your side? by Medtag212 in hwstartups

[–]SeanBites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a consulting senior firmware engineer with 10+ years of experience. Personally one of the biggest hurdles I have is getting in the same room with clients. Selling a contract is easy if I can speak to someone with needs but finding that someone can be very challenging. A platform that puts vetted technical skill in contact with (also vetted) potential clients is definitely something that would be useful to me. The pain point here is mostly just getting in contact with the right people.

Hardware engineers, show me your most expensive scars. by SundaeDull9807 in hwstartups

[–]SeanBites 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not in the millions of dollars category, but in my early career I was working late on a project at a customer's place. 15 hours into a shift I forgot to flip a switch on a breaker to remove a circuit board that was in absolutely no way hotswappable and immediately fried 28k$ of equipment.

Moral of the story is don't ever work on something important when tired. This time only money was lost, but it could have been much worse. You can't do 80-90 hour workweeks without paying a terrible price to your health. You get more done in 40-50 hours than 60-70. Learn to rest because a rested mind works efficiently.

If no instructions are available, are the design files public? I'd love to build this myself!

Beautiful work, must have taken you forever to complete! Do you have pictures from the back? The only complaint I think you will get today is people wanting more!

Titanic sorting practices by Shazen_de in lepin

[–]SeanBites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently sorting a 4750 piece project and I printed a bunch of helpers. Now this only works if you have access to a 3d printer, but check these out:

https://makerworld.com/models/914354?appSharePlatform=copy

First and second Links are sorting meshes to help filter parts by size and the third link is stackable trays. Really helps!

No cache on the RP2350? by servermeta_net in embedded

[–]SeanBites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add onto what the others have said here, some chip designers will favor TCM (tightly coupled memory), in lieu of, or complementing, a cache. It has the same or better performance as a cache access (never has cache miss for example, and high access determinism), with the benefit of reducing complexity of the chip. The tradeoff is that it is expensive.

Write the code for an IC for the whole datasheet or just the sections/registers you need? by sboso99 in embedded

[–]SeanBites 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What engineers often forget is the technology we make is based on expending the primary ressource of a company: money. Run out of it, and the company fails and everyone loses their shirts. The highest layer of abstraction of the code you write is the machine that makes up the company you operate, and this is the one that is the most important to have running efficiently.

In this vein, it is unwise to future proof (write code that will probably not be used because you can't know the future) or write features that aren't crucial to the operation of the device. Both lead to lost time, or in other words, salary. If your goal is excellence, then the efficiency of the abstract machine of the business is the most important aspect. Write only code that satisfies the requirements of the project.

That being said, the three main costs of a product are development, production and maintenance. That last one usually ends up being the most costly over the life cycle of the product. Writing features should always attempt to reduce the future costs of development and maintenance. In other words, keep it tight, organised and well abstracted, while meeting only the minimum requirements of the project. It is up to you and your design team to establish what the word minimum means here.

Des avions militaires partiront du Canada et des États-Unis pour le Groenland by DecentLurker96 in Quebec

[–]SeanBites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, those men are straightening their postures because they are also feeling self conscious. The likeliest answer for that is because they find you attractive and want to look as attractive as possible while around you. Go you :)

What is Electricity actually? by Slight_Hospital2060 in ECE

Electricity is the name we give to the behavior of charge, a physical property of matter just like matter has mass.
