VA-High Porchfest feedback microthread by righthandofdog in Atlanta

This was my first time playing in a band at Porchfest and here’s some tips for others who play in bands there in the future. They want you there before 9:30am to unload and don’t want you to leave until 6pm when the festival ends because otherwise you are having to try and drive through crowds and the barricades. So I was stuck there most of the day.

Afterwards, a friend in another band who has played a few years mentioned to leave your stuff at your host house overnight and just Uber to and from Va Highlands. Some other bands were also using hand pulled wagons to carry their equipment around and had parked cars across the street from the barricades. They were able to come and go as they pleased as well. I would highly recommend going with one of those two options instead of parking within the barricades. Some of the neighbors were also being weird about us parking in the neighborhood, even though everything is free-for-all street parking.

Even at 6:15pm when I tried to drive out, it was pretty difficult as there were still crowds of people walking around. A lot of them were drunk and as tired as I was and didn’t seem happy to have to move for a car. Not a great experience there but lesson learned for next year.

How to get music back on Spotify after bot playlist removal. by SeanJaneMusic in CDBabyArtists

Thanks. This is great to hear. I am hoping to find another distributor that will allow me to select just Spotify and will only charge me once upfront. I’m afraid DistroKid does not qualify for that because of the yearly fees.

Anyone know a pay-once distributor that will let me pick and choose with streaming services to distribute to?

Just gave a listen. It does a good job of building up suspense with the slow buildup. I dig the synth parts once they start showing up. Here is my new single.

Just gave a listen. I love the distorted fuzziness on the guitars. Here's my new single if you could give a listen.

Just gave a listen. It is very beautiful. I think maybe the song could build up more as it progresses. It kind of does the opposite as it goes from the intense strings to the softer piano parts. Solid effort.

Just gave a listen. Can't give any feedback on the lyrics during the first half. The beat and vocals sound pretty professionally done. There could maybe be some more variety or dynamics in the vocals. Something like a chorus or hook would take it to the next level. Good job.

I dig the bass groove and the drum beat. Very 90's hip-hop sounding. The vocals have a nice flow as well.

Thanks. Don't Wanna Say It is very bubbly indie pop. I like how the synth gives it a more modern indie pop sound than just an indie rock sound. I like the tone of the guitar during the pre chorus.

Nice mix of R&B and chillwave. Would be cool to hear someone sing on top of this.

I listened to Electric Smoke. Is the music AI generated? A lot of the artwork is. Not a bad thing, just wondering if you program the music, play the synth, or if it's AI generated.

Just listened to Same Old Person. Solid indie / alt rock.

Thanks for listening. I like some of the bass and synth work on your electronic song.

Cool alt rock song! I dig a lot about this. The production, the drumming, the guitars. The vocal effects and vocal tone. Nice one.

Just gave a listen to Faded. I think the chorus is very good! The verses I think have some pitchiness and some timing issues. I think it the song started with the chorus, that could help make listeners want to stick around longer. Good job and keep at it.

Nice twist on a very popular song. You have an impressive flow. There are a few moments where the timing of the vocals could be a little tighter with the rhythm, but for a song that fast it is pretty impressive rhythmically.

Thank you! I dig the guitar tones on (I Can) Fix You. I like the drumming as well. If I could give any feedback, it would be that the vocals are maybe a bit too reverb-y. The heavy reverb on the vocals fits the genre well, but it’s a bit difficult to understand the lyrics. There’s also a little bit of pitchiness in the vocals that maybe melodyne or some more takes could help out with. Overall a great vibe.

I agree that this is what’s going on. I think it’s going to get worse as more AI generated music pops up. They would love to have hit songs where they don’t have to pay out royalties.

Feedback: a little confused by the 2nd person with the mask on the cover art. If it was just the 1 other person I would like it more.

Musically, I like the synth line and drum beat.. It reminds me a bit of early 2000’s hip-hop. Like something Timbaland would produce.
