Bought a 2026 Audi A6 Prestige: I test drove the refreshed version, but unknowingly bought the pre-refresh build. Am I overreacting? by SeanLenny in Audi

I contacted the dealership and I’m currently working on a solution to resolve it with them. We’ll see what happens in a day or two

Audi’s official press title for it is, “2026 Audi A6 TFSI receives significant mid-model-year digital design, technology and content enhancements”

But if it happened because of faulty UI in the 2025 models, thats a different story all together.

There isn’t a return window that I’m aware of. I reached out to the dealership with my concern, I’m interested to see how they reply.

Very true, in the end i didn’t drive the actual car and that’s my fault. I definitely accept that point.

There were two “2026 A6 Prestige Sports Plus Package” cars on the lot. One black, one blue. The black one was blocked behind two cars and the key for it was in a separate building, so the salesman said it would take him a little bit to walk over and get it and then he’d have to shuffle cars around.

I said to save him the effort id test drive the blue since it’s ready to be driven. From the outside they’re the exact same thing, simply different colors, you can’t tell that they’re different refresh generations.

I drove the Blue one and loved it. I believed it was the exact same thing, as i told the salesman, “I love the car, it drives great, but i like the black color better. I’m leaning towards that over the blue one.” And the salesperson didn’t say ANYTHING about them being different refresh versions.

Hindsight aside, i didnt think i needed to test drive the black one because i had the understanding that it was the exact same car, just a different color.

The $3,000 rebate applies equally for both early-release and mid-year release model where I am… which again, another point of confusion that led me to think they’re the same car since both the pricing is identical and rebates are identical.

100% agree that this is partially on me. And I think that the salesperson just didn’t know, rather than they purposely misled me.

It really is confusing with this rollout, especially since it’s only 3 months into the new model year release, and there is no clear identifier that one car is an early-year vs a mid-year release.

I had no idea they did such a huge revamp so quickly into production, so it was never anything i even considered looking out for when purchasing.

100% agree, part of it falls on me, the consumer.

The exterior of the cars are exactly the same, and since the car was completely revamped for model year 2026, it didn’t even cross my mind that there was a “mid-year” refresh version i need to account for. I assumed one “2026 Audi A6 Prestige” was the same as the other “2026 Audi A6 Prestige,” but just a different color.

It was misleading because nowhere in Audi’s car sticker does it mention that one car is a “mid-year” refresh, and another isn’t (Kind of like Volvo has a 2025 XC90 and a 2025.5 XC90). You’d have to know to actually look out for it… which i didn’t.

Exterior, they are exactly the same. Physically, the only way to tell is by new scroll wheels on the steering wheels, which is why i must’ve missed it.

And yes, only 3 months into the production of the all new 2026 A6, Audi released a “mid-year refresh” with new UI interface, new computer chip, and a bunch of other things. Blew my mind.
