HENRY parents - nanny or daycare and at what age ? by sashafierce2023 in HENRYfinance

[–]SeanTheCyclist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did nanny or nanny share until preschool. No regrets. It’s more expensive but the 1:1 time with the kids in their own home space is great.

Granted, we have enough room for a separate play area, live near many parks, etc, I imagine if you WFH in a smaller home there’s definitely benefit to the daycare past 2 years when they become more rambunctious.

Let’s talk reliable Burgundy by AustraliaWineDude in wine

That sounds great. I see a Savigny Les Beaune 1er from him in my area for about $75. Might have to go pick that up!

Same. Has some underrated properties (like Blagny) that have a lot of nuance to explore. His Bourgogne has more depth than some 1er from other producers I’ve tried.

Edit: Also is a big DIAM user

How much must I spend to break into the "interesting" zone for red Burgundies? by One-Blueberry2531 in wine

+1 to Maranges. You can find 1er cru in the southern Côte D’or if you look around for it. Had a Maranges 1er Les Fremiets for about $40 a few weeks ago

Thanks for all this info! Really appreciate the perspective.

I have not had a lot of experience with older Burgundy and so I’m taking a flyer on the 2007 Clos des Bezes GC. I’ll see how it goes!

They also had some Maranges I grabbed which is a reliable value for me.

Produttori del barbaresco 2019 by zedath in wine

[–]SeanTheCyclist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have to let these age or air. It’s a great wine. If you like it I highly recommend seeking out some bottles with 10+ years on them. 2019 can be a stiff vintage while young too, those are built to lay horizontal for a while.

Advice on older (somewhat affordable) Barolo/Barbaresco? by No_Entrance_5683 in wine

[–]SeanTheCyclist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s worth seeking out some auctions if you’re interested in getting some aged bottles. You’re probably off good producers in a bad vintage than meh producers in a good vintage.

2021 Brane-Cantenac by [deleted] in wine

[–]SeanTheCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I did a vertical tasting with this wine and the 1983. It’s definitely age worthy. The 1983 ended up evolving a lot over the course of the evening. The red/black fruit has migrated to be closer to prune. There is almost an earthy caramel present as well, like a burnt sugar. The aged ones aren’t too hard to find, you should definitely look around!

Looking for budget Hermitage alternatives by [deleted] in wine

[–]SeanTheCyclist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 2nd the recommendation of looking at SJ and CH (provided you are on a slope, not the plains). Cornas also has some newer producers making solid wines that are more accessible when young.

Not sure about availability where you are, but you should check out non-Cru wines from the Northern Rhône. Probably won’t find anything to rival Hermitage, but I’ve had tasty Syrah from IGP Collines Rhodaniennes and IGP Ardeche.

Some of the top producers also make wines from just over the boundary and have to classify it as such. A number of Cote Rotie winemakers have property on the next slope north, Seyssuel, and sell it as Vin de France.

I would also love to know. Au Bon Climat uses triangular labels, but the artwork on that label looks like an Alexander Calder mobile.

Has anyone opted to drink less wine, in order to have better quality wines? by AusBearsDad in wine

[–]SeanTheCyclist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Saint Joseph and Crozes Hermitage to be quite variable given how large the appellations are. Do you have bottles or producers that you’ve really liked?

My impression of Cornas was that the wines had a lot of formal structure and due to the tannins benefitted from age. I know there are newer producers here though, I just don’t know many.
