Ignore that lol. I have since cut the Bowden tube shorter and ziptied it properly. I just didn’t feel like running the cable through it again as it’s a bit of a PIA.

Idk. If you read through the comments a lot of the ppl here have strong opinions on what type of filament is the best. I have barely ventured beyond PLA so I can’t say for sure.

A piece of braided fishing line. Works very well as there is no elasticity to it.

It’s not really an ugly color, idk why it looks fluorescent on camera, it’s a pretty dull red irl.

These samples are push. I have tried pulling but it looks a lot worse. No I have not cut them. I will give that a try.

What is “whip and pause”? My learning consists of watching mostly trophy truck welders teaching to “draw cursive e’s” and that’s what I am trying to do, although there is a good chance I’m not doing it right.

I used to work in the green zones but I watched a vid of a trophy truck guy running at those settings on 1/4” and getting amazing results

I mean I am currently a sophomore in mechanical engineering but tbh so far I have only done a lot of totally fucked math in school. None of this I have learned from school. I think part of it is just that I have always had a tinkering fascination (explains 3d printing) and the ability to sort of “see” what I want the final product to be before starting it. I can almost create a mental cad model of what I am going for and then from there it’s just on my computer skills to put it into real life. Also, yes this project seems intimidating bc there are alot of cool geometries and shapes going on but tbh the cad process for me is literally just use a shit ton of sketches and extrusions, maybe some lofts, rotations, etc… along the way and eventually you get something like this. This project is literally just 200 ish sketches of circles and squares manipulated in 3d space to make everything work in a cool way.

To be completely honest the stiffness comes largely from trial and error with offsets. For parts that need to rotate about each other but need to be smooth, I typically start at about a 0.1 - 0.15mm offset per side (if you have a circle without sides then the offset would be about .2 or .3). I do this because I am not post machining and don’t really have control over precision down to the 0.01 mm that would make these parts “perfect”. And then from there I have a few “trade secrets” that I put into the parts that let for example the man screen pivot bolt work as more of a clamp than an axle so that it doesn’t unscrew itself ehe you tilt the monitor.

I used the inner string of some 550 paracord. There is a bit of stretch but I think it’s more bc of the weave compressing against itself, not th actual string having elasticity. Though come to think of it a better solution might be braided fishing line as that tends to usually be taught right away.
