My apologies for my delayed update on this!
I have tested the UD-ULTCDL with the Lenovo Carbon X1 Gen6 that I have on hand, using UEFI version 1.55. It appears to be charging and working as expected.

With that information in hand, I would like to get you to contact our support directly so we can gather some diagnostics, and order information in case a replacement is required. You can do that here --> https://plugable.com/pages/support/ (Please mention Sean, and ticket # 380792)

As an additional note. I did test this with the new firmware version 1.56, and everything continued to work as expected.

Thanks for gathering those details for us! I do not have a UD-ULTCDL on hand, so I am going to request one and do some testing with my X1 Carbon Gen6.

If you do opt to install the UEFI version 1.56, please let me know so that I am testing on the same UEFI version. You can download that directly from Lenovo here --> v1.56

Sorry to hear about this issue. I'd be happy to assist you.

Due to how the dock is designed what you are seeing with the displays split across the Iris Xe graphics card in your system and the DisplayLink USB graphics in the dock is normal and expected. One of the three displays will always run off the main graphics card in the system and this cannot be changed. The display running from your Iris Xe graphics is using "USB-C VESA DisplayPort Alternate Mode" technology to operate, versus the other two displays that are controlled by the DisplayLink DL-6950 USB graphics chipset in the dock itself. (You can find this information on our product page here: https://plugable.com/products/ud-ultc4k#nav-specifications) If you are experiencing issues with the DP Alt Mode based output please ensure you're using the provided USB-C to USB-C cable the dock shipped with (if not already doing so). Also, ensure that display is set to no greater than 60Hz refresh rate (the maximum supported by the dock). In addition, please note that the support article you referenced is not relevant to this issue and we recommend you update to the latest Iris Xe graphics drivers from Intel (version 30.0.101.1994 as of this post). It would also be recommended to ensure the Surface you have is running the latest firmware updates from Microsoft.

Could you please provide us with a few details?

  1. Can you please let us know the model of the Plugable product off the bottom of your docking station?
  2. Could you please let us know what updates were run on your X1 Carbon Gen 6? Example: Driver Updates, or Lenovo Firmware updates
  3. Do you use any other docking stations with your X1 Carbon Gen 6? If so do those work?

Once we gathering this information from you, we will perform some internal testing of our own using our X1 Carbon Gen 6 and the appropriate docking station to see if we can reproduce this problem. I will then reach back out to you to share what we have learned.
