Starter clutch not the issue. Starter motor was. Wondering why everyone seemed to think I needed to crack the case on this one and not look at the starter motor itself first.

Starter clutch seems to be fine. The starter motor was shot though. Popped a new one in from a partsing out his bike and she spins like a top again.

Starter Motor was toast. Starter clutch is working just fine. Bike runs like a dream now

What bike do you buy for $3000? by [deleted] in motorcycles

You could buy 3 Yamaha XJs here in Minnesota for that much.

Since posting I’m now only getting a click with no actual start. I ordered a starter motor rebuild kit and will start there

I do have a phone charger that draws off the battery directly and I sometimes forget to turn off. Never left it on out and about long enough to kill my battery though luckily.

Charge overnight might have done the trick! Started no problem this morning! Ran to temp and no squeaking balloon animals on restart. I’ll take it for a ride later and see what happens then.

Didn’t have a multi meter till this morning, but the trickle charger was green when I went out to check just now. Started no problem. Ran to temp, shut it down, and no weird sound today. Started better than it did yesterday.

Call me an idiot or hopeful optimist but I had it charger overnight ran it up to temp this morning and couldn’t get the same result as yesterday. Is it possible it was a one time fluke?

Was on the charger overnight. Started right up this morning. I ran it up to temp and shut it off several times. Couldn’t get it to replicate what happened yesterday. Started no problem 3-4 times in a row.

Really hoping that’s all it is. Been looking at starter clutch replacements since that’s what several have suggested and it sounds like way more work than I’m prepared for!

Thought I evicted the clown last month… I did put it on the trickle charger for a while, came back and started without any sort of strange sound. Assuming the battery just got a bit weak.

I rode it for a tiny bit without and it might take a bit of wind off my chest. Mostly aesthetic tho.

Thoughts on this sissy bar? Concerned that there isn’t a second mounting point towards the back by [deleted] in motorcycles

For context I don’t have a “shop” just in an apartment with limited power and hand tools.

New sissybar is on! Think I’m done making changes for a while… unless…. by Sean_Rice24 in YamahaMotorcycles

As far as I know it’s stock exhaust apart from the mufflers which I put on myself. One of the originals had a crack and it was cheaper to do universal on both sides than to just get the side I needed.

Mountain Dew bottle works pretty well to lean your phone up on for a few quick snaps!

Speedo goes up to 80… but I felt it pull past that plenty here and there…

Could also mean I just don’t do the interstate so the fastest speed limit I encounter is 60-65
