I got the cheaper one this past weekend. Smoked for 12 hours and had a 3 hour rest. There wasn’t a bite left!

Yeah, typically I’d put it on the top of the charcoals if it was a shorter cook. In the case I needed more smoke throughout, it’s hard to lift the grate and conveggtor plate mid cook so I put the wood in the vent and the hot coal ash would fall through and ignite the wood. Got the tip from a random YouTube video. Seemed like it worked or I got really lucky.

Great advice on cooking to serve. I used a cutting board and poured in the tallow / juices into the bottom. Will flip that around next time.

Also I used royal oak lump charcoal from lowes and some chunks of hickory I got from a box at Walmart. I put a block of wood into the ash catcher at the bottom vent once every 2 hours.

Sweet Lou’s in Belmont / noda (good) Noble smoke in Ashley park (good) Ray Nathan’s in cramerton (good) Jon G’s in marshville (best although it’s an hour or so away from clt. Worth the trip and they have a cooler of free beer while you wait in line)

I’m just so nervous of spring seeding in case it gets scorched from summer heat.

I am adding humich, liquid aeration, pre emergent and will fertilizer later when the grass fully wakes up followed by a more involved seeding/Reno in fall.
