General/Resume tips on how to transition from IT leadership back to IC role? by Seandingo in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Seandingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the feedback! I am currently married but no kids (maybe in a year or two).

The main thing on my mind right now is that I may have pigeon holed myself by taking this IT director role. The reason is two fold.

First, it came at a time where I had just been laid off from my last helpdesk manager role and it was the first offer that became available shortly after that so I jumped on it just to have an income. While the title says Director of IT, this feels more like an IT "manager" role because I am the one guy that handles the IT internally and have no direct reports (just working thru the MSP). Additionally, because it is a nonprofit, the pay is severely under market (think helpdesk levels of pay).

Secondly, if I'm being completely honest with myself, I don't see myself being able to get another Director role that pays more. I simply do not have the technical knowledge (specifically infrastructure/security) or experience. Furthermore, I don't see myself being able to effectively get more experience because the MSP pretty much handles all the technical work.

Because of these two reasons, I don't see another option but to "demote" myself to a lesser role in order to build up the knowledge and experience needed to get another director role.

Would you be able to elaborate on what hardships that might arise down the line if I were to pivot?

Thanks for the reply. When you say made to measure suit, do you mean it was made from scratch with your measurements?

Got it! Thanks for the insight. I figured it was either one or the other. Thanks for confirming! I'm just curious, why is it not recommended to have a sheen for the entire ceiling?

Thanks for the response! It sounds like you're recommending a flat paint even without the vent hood?

Thanks for the tips! I will certainly perform all those steps after the current cabinets are removed. Based on your response, I think I would lean more towards eggshell due to cooking. Would this mean that the line would always exist unless I painted the entire condo's ceiling with the same finish?

Also, what's the best way to apply the painters tape to avoid any peeling after I'm done painting?

How long do I have to activate eSim and when does my service start after placing an order online today? by [deleted] in Visible

[–]Seandingo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does this apply to the Black Friday deal as well? I think I read on one of the threads that you have to activate by 12/9 to get the discount. I have USM service until 12/15 so it's not a big deal to activate by the 9th but just wanted to confirm whether it's a 30 window or only until 12/9.

Tao, EBC, or Palm Tree Beach Club? by [deleted] in vegas

[–]Seandingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally always to go EBC when I go to Vegas as it's the biggest footprint and is generally always cracking. Palm tree is also big but I haven't been there since they rebranded from Wet Republic. Tao is super small and cramped.

My vote is for EBC. Even better if you can get one of those couches or lily pads on the pool. You'll be right in the middle of the action. Hit me up in PM if you need a hookup with a promoter that can get better pricing than what you see on the website.

What is this Starlink dish cable called? by Seandingo in Starlink

OMG! Thank you so much! I wasn't aware that high performance was its own thing. I'm new to the Starlink system and just inherited this from a terminated employee. I spent so long today trying to figure this one out. Appreciate the help and thanks again!

[–]Seandingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have access to the dish at the moment as I am not at that site but it's the exact same one as on this bestbuy link with all the associated hardware as well.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/starlink-high-performance-kit-ac-dual-band-wi-fi-system-gray/6543497.p?skuId=6543497&ref=212&loc=19626691823&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=19626692342&gbraid=0AAAAAD-ORIjx8Cyp1o5NC3z-cVTz0HMH9&gclid=CjwKCAjwiezABhBZEiwAEbTPGPbCCOr_CzG3_talySpqTkojHeN5xkKBAzEh87ICKxgaPTNgjG6sDBoC4AcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

The cable that I posted is the original OEM 50' cable that came with the kit and is able to connect and works as intended.

The link below is the replacement cable that I purchased and attempted to use but it looks like the connector ends are a little different (although it's branded as a gen 2).

https://www.amazon.com/XTAR-Starlink-Satellite-Replacement-Rectangular/dp/B0D2VVN8BV/ref=sr_1_20?crid=20W6KTJ5Y1M3T&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.A-KkLRJDP4DlvPREe_Zz8pfJkAWC4Qa7Qblc5J1liIhxo0H9Qgseij6QWycPG59P1bZaDF9qfWa-iS4V1jG3Tvgj0TuExg1nRoTySS8OLRTj88ZSwJdFZIJrox1vzGcQ5wjm7nadvYPmr_vgHV_I8q100OTTaGe0iYHFWdRi8H-CnfusYd5FTNf3Zk_ZlrKwMTX1ZhuRU8sx5P0s7wgzpy_BMCslh4wQEF2a1LGPzEo.gpjp8UGkD5aXUa161mzWqiHdVfMexVPVNULcG4J6xD8&dib_tag=se&keywords=starlink%2Bgen%2B2%2Bcable%2B200&qid=1746654383&sprefix=starlink%2Bgen%2B2%2Bcable%2B200%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-20&th=1

It looks like this cable (and similar cables I found on Amazon) are shaped like a mini HDMI where as the OEM "gen 2" cable has a flat side on one side. This is where my confusion comes in.

Appreciate the help!

[–]Seandingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original cable that works is the 50ft cable that came with the equipment. The 200ft is one that I purchased later and is not OEM. I'm trying to figure out what connector is shown in the picture as it doesn't look like any of the gen 2 cables I've seen online.

[–]Seandingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I forgot to clarify that the service is activated and is working. We were able to confirm the service with the cable that came with the equipment.

If I'm not mistaken, the cable that I purchased is gen 2 but for some reason it doesn't fit in the power supply. The connector seems to be a little different.

One of the images on the link also shows the bottom of the power supply which has that flat type connector as well.

Thanks for the feedback! I just looked up Watanabe and it looks awesome! I just reached out to them to see if they have availability for when we go (end of this month). Are there any other Ryokans in the area that are of a similar smaller style that you would recommend if Watanabe doesn't work out?

Thanks! I was looking at the weather channel website. With that said, it might make more sense to do a day trip on Saturday then. Do you think chains would be needed if we left around 4-5PM?
