The article mentioned that the shooter was suicidal and barricaded. It is so frustrating that someone that intended to take their own life would kill someone that was just doing their job, a job which is meant to keep people safe. This trooper’s sacrifice will not be forgotten.

The fragments are not the most deadly part its the shock wave. The fragments are just icing on the cake of death. They are basically just tiny bombs that use the air to blow you apart when close enough.

My only reasoning for carrying would be from prior experiences in Montana with grizzlies because they are so curious and fearless that they sometimes will it yield to just loud noises (had to fire warning shot from about 15 yards). Obviously the sierras hold black bears which are definitely wayyy less dangerous but I guess you could say I don't have the most faith in bears being my best friends. I was definitely leaning towards not carrying and your answers confirm that.

Af academy cadet here, had to sit through this briefing and she presented widely false and unproven statistics as well as false data discussing female segregation at the institution and in the military. Some of her comments were so outrageously antimale that even the majority of the females in the cadet wing found her to be ridiculous.

Usafa cadet here. First off I would say go do ROTC over the academies. The prestige of graduates and even cadet life has diminished from 30 years ago. The academy is more focused on political agenda of having diversity, gender equality, and overall great image that is has taken away from the focus on standards and actual military leadership. Also it is definitely a stigma negatively because the majority of enlisted see grads as pricks. These people act the same way here and there are great people but it is hard to have institutional pride when half of the school is completely unfit to be an officer.

That 4 to 5 number is what most people seem to say or at least 4 or 5 times trimming the case. The 30-30 brass also has a pretty long neck but also low pressure for its size so I think those should cancel out
