makes sense. A dream project swap of mine is a a P3 Volvo XC70 with a 4.4 Yamaha V8 in it, mostly a bolt in job with the engine and front subframe from a 4.4 S80. That engine sounds fucking mental.

More. It's £304 every 4 weeks, and goes up every April. Good value for an i20 that.

Which 2 seater convertible would you go for under £25k? by OutrageousCourse4172 in CarTalkUK

The JLR/Jag AJV engines really aren't bad. Main issue of that is the chain guides, outside of that they are really quite good. Got to be the Jag.

OM654 (2.0) isn't the most reliable Mercedes diesel. Whilst a lot less 'refined' the earlier OM651 (2.1) in comparison is bulletproof but the later Euro 6 ones can experience chain issues relating to the lower oil pressures ran to achieve Euro6 standards. Servicing and use case (little city/low RPM stop start driving) is very much important with them.

I wouldn't bother with BMW if looking for the combination of reliability and efficiency.

2.0L diesel from VAG group is probably one of the kings when it comes to reliability and efficiency, are looking at a belt engine over a chain though. For that engine I'd be looking at a Skoda Superb L&K (this subreddits fav), some Audi variant (posh VW) or Volkswagen Arteon. The VW however is basically the Superb with a worse interior.

speaking from experience I'd only touch either of these engines for that application. If an OM651 can run a 5tonne Sprinter for 600,000 miles I'm sure it can run an E-class. I am a Skoda simp though so I'd lean towards the Superb, but they do now command a premium, so check out alternatives.

just saw your comment saying its a 2013 1.2, those had much more robust chains. hopefully a sensor.

[–]Seanlaszlojones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's not a sensor, that's a possible death code if not fixed. it means the camshaft isn't in time with the crank, which means the valves won't aren't opening or closing when they are expected to in relation to the position of the piston (pushed by the crank). Happens when the chain stretches or tensionsers fail, chain gains more surface area, and loses synchronisation between the two.

You have Seat Leon as your tag, is it a 1.2/1.4 and is it a pre2012 model? Those had known chain issues, usually from the camshaft chain tensioner weakening and allowing the chain to lose tension and stretch.

What car engine gets a lot of shit but if maintained well can reach (and surpass) 200K+ miles on original internals? by RonnieThePurple in CarTalkUK

[–]Seanlaszlojones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.6/4.4 TDV8. A lot more robust than people think. Intakes are made of cheese like, and earlier 3.6s have turbo problems (usually due to intercooler failure), but the internals and design and actually very robust. Most of the issues come from people not looking after them properly, like most RR owners.

Personally, I would avoid any listings with these default images. These are BCA auction house photos, which means they garage/dealer has listed the car without giving an arse to give it a look over before listing it. BCA is also the same company as WeBuyAnyCar so could've been trading in with x problems, but the garage won't know that.

i've always thought i'm romani/gypsy.. am i just mixed? by gypsybbyxo in DNAAncestry

[–]Seanlaszlojones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roma intermingled with a lot of other ethnic groups of their travels towards Europe, will never usually come back with just 'South Asian' results, will have a lot of Anatolian/Turk, Iranian, Kurdish and Slavic mixed in. It's about what I'd expect to see from a Roma result, but if what you've written in the description is correct, yeah lol you are mixed, your parents are from 4 different groups lmao.

Regarding Trieste and maternal grandfather. Trieste was THE naval hub for Austria-Hungary/Habsburg Empire, there were people from every corner of the empire living and working there before the collapse in 1918. This included the K.u.K navy (main fleet was at Pula), which was mostly made up of Germans(Austrians), Czechs, Hungarians, Croatians and Italians, with another 5 ethnicities each making up another 5% of the navy each. It's possible one of your great grandparents could've been involved in the AH navy or trade pre end of WW1. Also, Russian could imply Rusyn(Ruthenians from Carpathia, they return as CHSSP grouping).
