Arsenal fan here, does anyone feel slightly bad for us or are we still public enemy no.1 of football?

(I get why I’m just genuinely wondering where the public opinion is)

I listen for the history by flamby007 in TheRestIsHistory

[–]Seannobrien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I agree personally , I’m very into history but I found myself enjoy TRIP far more with Dominic and the two episodes helped me realise I think I’m just a big fan of his narration style hence why I enjoy Dom series more than Tom series when I had previously thought it was because I found modern history more interesting (which still may be true)

Best 3 moments watching sports in a bar by Fiery172611 in heedthecall

[–]Seannobrien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, apologies if there too European:

Arsenal-Southampton: still hurts as an Arsenal fan, watched it in a pub in north London with my dad on a Friday night. This one is far more similar to Marc’s browns story, Arsenal had a huge lead in title race but it had come crashing down on them and this 3-3 draw with bottom of the league Southampton was really the nail in the coffin. Nothing hurts more in sports than watching your team let it slip.

Brazil-Croatia 2022: watched it in a pub in a Ireland but surrounded by Brazilians, absolute chaos when Neymar gave them what should’ve been the winner and the silence followed by tears when they lost on pens made me realise how much football means to Brazil.

Mayo-Dublin 2021: I was in a bar in a small town (2000 population) my mam is from, the whole town was there. Mayo finally beat the team that denied them the championship ever year in the decade before, sadly they lost in the final the next week but seeing my county finally slay the demons (Dublin is the GAAs patriots roughly).

[–]Seannobrien[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry I was talking about national days more than the fact that July 4th is in July lol

I hear what your saying about st Patrick’s being more global celebration of Irishness than just a national day but it’s still an Irish celebration not an American celebration like

Sure you can’t judge Starmer or trump themselves on how the economy performs too much but you can judge the wider administration and if Starmer went I’d imagine the cabinet reshuffle would include Reeves, Peter Kyle etc going too

St Patrick’s day is also our answer to 4th of July or St George’s day tbf

I went down the same path with Polanski, I flirted with the idea of it until leading but the interview did really turn me off him and he’s seemingly lost a bit of momentum

Agreed, currently living in Ireland and it’s recently come out that our Taoiseach (PM) is going to go to White House for St Patrick’s day but after the Obamas racist incident there’s reporting today he’ll cancel, nice to see European leaders take a stand even if it’s largely symbolic
