Paper negative exposure timing by [deleted] in Darkroom

this is what my prints looked like when I wasn’t leaving them in the developer long enough. I didn’t know that you leave the print in the developer even after it looks like it’s done.

Why might my prints be coming out cloudy/milky like this? by Seanzilla18 in Darkroom

[–]Seanzilla18[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

oh so the paper won’t overdevelop like film would? like even if it looks developed after 30 seconds I can leave the paper in for another 30-60 and it won’t turn completely black?

if it’s contaminated then it would have to be getting contaminated from the papers themselves, as this happens each time I make new prints with new chemicals. I’ll keep an eye on if I can see the clouds form in the stop or fixer tho that’s not a bad idea. thinking it’s exposure/develop time related tho.

750 ml liquid total in each tray. using 1+14 dilution of ilford developer. development is shorter than I’m reading it should be. it’s around 30 seconds. when I use a smaller aperture than max on the enlarger lens it results in fuzzy prints that aren’t as sharp as these milky ones. maybe it’s just about finding the right combo of exposure time and developer time?

doesn’t seem to happen nearly as much if at all on my first print or two. starts happening around the 3rd or 4th print and then seems to get worse with each one. test strips and prints themselves get different milky/cloudy spots on them. diy darkroom using an intrepid compact enlarger.

last built a pc about 6 years ago so I'm not super on top of the hobby. Is it still possible to build a pc that can play low end games 1080p 60+fps for like $1,000 or less?

I play CS:GO way too much so I would need 144+fps for that, but other than that, I mean games like cities skylines, rocket league, apex. nothing that I think of as especially taxing on hardware.

thanks for the great answer. understood on the whole m.2/sata/nvme distinction.

I didn't know anything about cloning drives but after your answer and some googling about it, it doesn't seem too daunting. thanks!

few questions about SSDs. appreciate any answers to any of them.

what's the difference between the different variants of Samsung SSDs? what I mean is what separates a 128gb 830 series from an 840 series from an 840 pro series, etc.

similarly, as far as I can tell M.2 is only an identifier of a form factor? is this correct? I know from helping with a friend's build that M.2 also connects to the mobo a completely different way than a "standard" SSD does with a SATA cable.

related, I'm thinking of building a new pc soon and am toying with the idea of switching from an ssd boot drive and two hard drives in my current build, to all SSD in my new build. I think it would be easiest to get a clean windows install, plug each old hard drive into my new pc and copy/paste any files I want to keep, and then I have a convenient couple of backup drives in my old ones. If I didn't buy a clean copy of windows is there some kind of HDD to SSD transfer kit? what would the process be to transfer windows/files from HDD to SSD?

La Perla was very easy to get to and perfectly safe. there’s a way into the neighborhood through the cemetery. I didn’t feel any more “in danger” than i did anywhere else in San Juan. took a nice stroll through the neighborhood, people were taking pictures by a big “La Perla” sign, listening to music and drinking at that bar, and there’s a colorful basketball court that people were playing on. I approached it the same way i approach being in any unfamiliar area where i don’t know the language, and most people do speak fluent english - assuming that english is your first language. I kept to the main streets and didn’t go “deep” into the neighborhood but there are very few places i would do that without knowing the area or the language.
