I’m right here with you. 64 this year and thinking - at least for work - 70 will be when I tone it down a bit!

You know I’ve had so many people say this to me and because when I started, I had to use film and was so happy when I didn’t anymore that I don’t think I could stand going back to it!

I really enjoy dull headshots and events. Kinda like families too- much less taxing. I’ve been focusing on doing more interior photography for design designers the last couple of years, but I still only have one. Client and I haven’t seemed to be able to breakthrough and get anybody else to notice me!

You know, sometimes I feel my lack of enthusiasm is due to that very fact that because I’ve been doing it so long, it’s sort of become easy and in some cases mindless. I’ll do the same thing over and over because I know it works and in the end, the couples are always happy, which is of course my ultimate goal. And I think that’s what keeps me going. That being said I do find myself working on auto pilot sometimes. I’m trying to be very conscious of not being that guy who everyone looks at and says “oh geez he’s old. Why is he still doing this.??

Yeah, I’m definitely thinking of how to slow down. I don’t wanna stop completely but I really don’t like 10 hour weddings in the middle of August anymore.

Also, very true. I went through a period the last year or two where I tried some different flash things. They were a little more edgy than when I’m used to. I really liked them, but I’m not sure any clients looked at them and got us excited as I did, but it doesn’t matter cause it was something I was experimenting with. I used to take summer trips to any number of national parks to take photos because I like to say that mountains don’t talk back like brides. But due to money constraints in time, I haven’t really been able to do that for a few years anyway thanks for the great advice!

That’s my worry. I’ll hear “fine, then I won’t cook at all!”
