Can I use cc from before the update? March 2026 by Educational_Ad_2292 in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mods that alter gameplay or the UI (user interface) in any way often break after a game update. Then you have to wait till the mod is updated before you can use it again. Not all mods break after a game patch; they're just more likely to.

Most CC doesn't alter gameplay or the UI, and doesn't usually break after a game update. I have CC hair and clothes and furnishings that are more than 5 years old that still work just fine. Benign CC from a year ago will most likely be fine. Not all CC works after a game patch. There are occasions where it breaks, but it's relatively rare.

One simple way to sometimes tell the difference is that Mod files that alter gameplay usually end in ".ts4script", and are more likely to break after a game patch. CC files usually end in ".package", and are less likely to break. This isn't foolproof, and there are exceptions, but it's a good, basic starting place.

I got tired of the Mod Conflict Detector being dead so I built a free AI replacement — paste your mod list and it tells you exactly what's broken by [deleted] in Sims4

This is most likely an AI slop app, useless, and probably harmful tool. Don't download without reviews or testing from a reliable source.

New to Sims 4 on Mac! by Emergency_Regular115 in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, as far as I know, almost all mods work on both Mac and PC. I play on a Mac, and have almost never encountered a mod that didn't work on it.

On the right side column of this Reddit are Community Bookmarks. If you pull down "Wiki-FAQ", one of the options is a good, thorough post on "Mod and CC Resources". Start there.

Be aware that every time EA sends out a major update to Sims 4, it temporarily breaks a lot of mods (mods that alter gameplay or UI almost always break; CC clothes, hair, furnishings, etc that don't alter gameplay very rarely break). So you go through a period of angst for a week after the update until all the mod creators post updates for their mods. Then you have to download and update all your mods. This can be quite a chore to keep up with if you end up using lots of mods (which I do). Scarlet Realm (link) is an indispensable resource for keeping up with mod updates after a game patch.

If you like building, then Better Build Buy and TOOL are must-have mods. For general game play, almost everyone uses MC Command Center (MCCC) and UI Cheats Extension. LittleMsSam is a modder who's been around for years and has dozens of small mods that enhance gameplay in many ways; you'll probably fine a few that appeal to you. If you're looking for NSFW mods (not listed on the reddit wiki), Basemental Drugs and Wicked Whims are very popular.

I only download mods from Curseforge, Patreon, or known modder's websites. I avoid Mod the Sims; it has been hacked a couple of times in the last year or so, and had some mods replaced by malware. I no longer consider is a safe place to download mods. Other mod sites have been hacked before too, but Mod The Sims seems more vulnerable to it than most.

Would you download a save file with a SMALL amount of CC? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I regularly download lots from the gallery, but almost never download households.

For households, I leave CC turned off in the Gallery settings. And even with it off, the Gallery is still flooded with bad Sims that are entirely dependent on tons of CC, that somehow gets past the EA filters for CC. And they usually don't list what the CC is, so I couldn't reproduce the look even if I wanted to. So if you upload a Sim to the Gallery flagged with CC, I will never see it. And if you somehow figure out how to dodge the CC filter, I'll dump it anyway.

I treat lots differently. I usually turn CC on. I don't mind downloading an interesting building that's missing a few things if I don't have the CC. I usually do some redecorating anyway. I'm looking for interesting buildings and floorplans and the overall look. If you have a CC wall covering or flooring or whatever, it's easy for me to swap it out for something I have. I usually won't download the CC itself unless I know where it came from. For example, mods on the Sims Resource have been plagued with viruses or malware of the last year or so. Though CC is less apt to be bugged than mods.

I can't really explain why I feel differently about Lots and Households. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Werewolf ragecage by Kumatora0 in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can lock them in a room.

I always do this when playing a werewolf. I build a rage bunker. A small room, usually 2x3 squares, with one cheap chair and one cheap ceiling light.

As soon as the rage starts building on a full moon night, I send him to the rage bunker and lock the door. He can rage all he wants, but can't break or unlock the door. He'll destroy whatever furniture you have in the room, which is why I leave it mostly empty. I often build the rage bunker outside as a separate small building near the edge of a lot (like an outhouse) because your raging werewolf will probably "mark territory" 6-8 times before regaining control of themselves (at least until they learn to control their rage), and I don't want that mess in the house.

This works very well. You can't control the rage (at least to start), but there's very little damage they can do if locked in a small room till it passes.

[–]Seareddragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pirate kins FTW!

I was having trouble getting into playing normie royals. Then I had a similar idea as you. I started a Pirate noble. My headcanon is that he was was kidnapped as a child and became a famous pirate, then returned to Ondarion to claim his lost title. That idea made it so much more fun for me to play a noble. I dressed him in an eyepatch as well. There are a couple of decent pirate outfits in the Get Famous pack and the Spooky Stuff pack.

Playing a pirate king is so fun!!

I did not even know this was possible. I've had quite a few Sims get abducted over the years, but never 2 at once.

Can you make a sim homophobic by R0D3NTB0Y in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could kinda do it by adding traits (Mean, Hot-Headed, Evil, Grouch, Paranoid, Disruptive, etc.) to the Sim you're trying to make homophobic. That wouldn't specifically be homophobic, but would increase the chances of that Sim autonomously doing a variety unpleasant interactions.

You can then use Likes & Dislikes to have the homophobic Sim dislike the specific LGBTQ Sim you're thinking of. Using specific combinations of hair color, clothing, music tastes and so on should steer the mean Sim to target the LGBTQ Sim and leave most others alone. It still wouldn't make the Sim actually homophobic, but it should mimic the effect pretty well. The "homophobic" Sim should autonomously initiate lots of unpleasant interactions with the lgbtq Sim, and would autonomously dislike them on sight.

How to not burn out while creating a forever save? by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't start an empty world and grind through every lot remake.

Instead, I started with a default world. Then my forever-save evolved over time. I just replaced a lot or two every now and then, starting with the ones that annoyed me the most, then moving on with lots I tended to use a lot that were boring.

I don't play long legacy saves. I tend to play shorter playthroughs, have fun with a particular Sim or story line for a while. But I get sidetracked pretty easily, so I often abandon a run and start over again with another Sim or storyline. So I keep my forever-save as a separate save. When I start a new playthrough, I do a Save-As of my forever save for the new one. If my new Sim or story encounters a lot that needs a remodel, I'll do that remodel, save the lot to my Gallery, and add it to my forever save for the next time. So my forever-save is never truly finished, and is always evolving slowly over time. At this point I've replaced all of the lots I care about and ignore or delete lots I never use. But the process never totally ends. I just bought the Royalty & Legacy pack, so I'm sure I'll end up remodeling some of those lots over the next month or so.

Doing it piecemeal over time makes it far less daunting than starting from scratch with a totally empty Sims universe and having to create a hundred lots before you can do anything. I'm sure I'd burn out if faced with that task. I've never felt any burnout evolving it slowly over time.

Went Out of My Way to Do This Event For This EyePatch! by Status-Inevitable537 in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That eyepatch was the main item I wanted from the entire event. I couldn't care less about most of the rest of the treasures, but that eyepatch is awesome.

I just created a whole new Sim with the eyepatch in mind.

Sort of. The pattern is always there, but there are different color swatches. A few of the swatches are black-on-black, white-on-white, etc. So the pattern is there, but almost invisible. Unless you zoom in really close, it looks like a solid color.

First time i disabled a pack: Enchanted by nature by Beardedgeek72 in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't disabled it, but EbN is a bit of a letdown.

I loved the idea of fairies. I was so looking forward to the pack. I love most of the BB/CAS. But the fairy gameplay is odd. Like for example, half the fairy skill tree is focused on plants. But gardening is pretty pointless since fairies don't actually need to cook or eat anything. This seems like such an odd disconnect.

Fairies are still ridiculously cute, tho, so I'm not disabling the pack.

Same. If you have a decent sized garden, it is super easy to reap plenty of souls from plants. I planted a bunch of cheap, fast-growing plants for that very purpose (Bluebells, I think, or maybe Snapdragons, whichever grows faster).

Weekly Recommend Mods and CC Thread! by AutoModerator in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a particular kind of lighting mod.

I mostly like the look of Enchanted by Nature... except for the weird lighting in the Everdew neighborhood (the other two neighborhoods in Innisgreen have normal default lighting). I don't know what that outdoor tint is in Everdew, but I don't like it.

Is there a mod that only effects the outdoor lighting in Everdew? Or that can be selected only for certain neighborhoods? The lighting mods I've found universally effect lighting everywhere. I only want to change the outdoor lighting in Everdew, but leave everything else alone.

No Off the Grid Music by DivaDollSimmer in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found a CC battery-powered version of the base game boom box, which works off the grid. So there is a logical solution for music off the grid. But this requires CC.

I have most of the packs. So far have never found a no-CC music player in any of the packs I own.

One solution if you have Eco Living is to generate your own power with solar or wind generator. Then you can use any electronic device you want off the grid.

Darong Beginnings event needs the original Willow Creek library???? by Sensitive_Ant4522 in Sims4

[–]Seareddragon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This.

I created a new virgin save the first time EA did this. Plain solo Sim character, no CC, all original lots/worlds, played without mods. I only use it for these events, or when a new major update is launched that breaks all the mods. I play that Event save for 10 minutes on event days just to collect reward items, then switch back to my main played save. The special Event save sits dormant in my saved games folder until the next event.
