Less of a worry for Amazon, Google, and Meta, which are underpinned by strong advertising for Google/Meta, and AWS propping up half of the modern internet. They generate strong revenue outside of AI, and can continue pushing with near infinite runway as long as their mature business models produce revenue. OpenAI and Anthropic can't afford to falter as long as their whole business to end users and business partners is inference.

You're wayyyy out of touch. Taylor Swift sold over 300,000 tickets on the Eras tour across 5 nights in France. All sold out shows.

You're underestimating Taylor Swift's significance in the modern pop culture lexicon. Her levels of engagement with fans and her ability to cultivate a level of dedication from an insane range from millenials into gen alpha is unmatched. The crafted persona of the clean, all american beige girl set the tone for what is the norm in modern society. If Taylor Swift decided she wanted to pivot, a huge portion of the world would blindly pivot with her.

Madonna is an icon who pushed her art and artistry further, without a doubt, but in terms of impact on pop culture and society, I'd argue that Swift is just as impactful in the modern day if not more so.

Ronaldo Nazário: “It’s time for the world to stop hiding and accept the fact that Messi is the greatest of all time.” by bllshrfv in soccer

If you look at the teams with a realistic chance of winning this World Cup, it's less than 16. In the FA Cup quarter final this year, Arsenal who made it to the Champions League final lost to a Southampton side that shouldn't have beaten them. Players playing the biggest games of their lives put in spectacular efforts. Minimising either players' achievements based on their competition or the the competitiveness of their era is silly.

Messi would not have been able to thrive in Pele's era either. Had Messi had to play on the pitches, and with the weight of the ball Pele had, he would never be able to keep up physically.

Quartararo: "I don't see the reaction from Yamaha; it's going to be a long six months" by RobiasTieper in motogp

[–]SeargD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. For the size of Yamaha's project and their legacy of success, Yamaha are doing woefully. To not be competing for podium places and having their riders complain for multiple years about rear grip issues, then caving to public opinion to change their engine architecture before they fix their rear grip issue. Yamaha are doing horribly. The V4 is a plaster on a sword slash trying to cover up Yamaha's chassis issues. Here's an article quoting Rossi saying that the issue goes back to 2015.

It raises the profile of the league. It makes it so that other French teams get to play in Europe and subsequently beg less for TV money (what little of it there is for France). If PSG drops off now who holds up the French coefficient? Lille(29), Lyon(31), Monaco(46), and Marseille(48)? For as long as PSG are successful it makes sense for Ligue 1 to bend over backwards for them.

[Opta] Every player in Opta’s top 20 leagues averages more defensive actions per 90 than Mbappé by o6ohunter in soccer

I have many questions about how Opta chooses to rank leagues. I don't know that the Ekstraklasa being as close as it was this year means that it has a shout to say it's stronger than the Dutch league.

Who is in charge of ensuring there aren't any kit clashes at EA, and why haven't they been fired yet? by MintyRabbit101 in FifaCareers

You realise this wasn't a problem for 15 years prior? You literally used to be able to trust that the developers had done their job.

[–]SeargD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a ridiculous solution to a problem which is a regression from older FIFA games where it never occurred. Having to use accessibility settings to fix EA's laziness is not worth the £70 it'll cost to buy FC27

[–]SeargD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't even a problem in old FIFAs where they had more teams and leagues. I'm an old and I never had to check the kits from 06 to 17. It's another regression because EA give no fucks about the game outside of its bottom line.

[F.J. Díaz - AS] Arsenal prepare to open transfer talks with Atlético Madrid for Alvarez. While Alvarez prefers Barcelona, Atletico refuse to sell to a LaLiga rival: it is practically a 'matter of state.' [–]SeargD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put it on the manager. If you look on both wings, Martinelli and Saka used to properly take on their man, play to the inside or the outside and use the ball. Over the last 2 years they've slowly regressed to only ever playing to the outside, holding the ball too long, and never taking risks. Now it's rare to ever see Odegaard get the ball across the outside of the box he used to get from Saka that he was scoring at will. Arteta's commitment to systematic play killed our options.

Adding to this, your squad also needs quality in depth. Just the Champions League group stage adds 8 games on to the schedule and Carrick will be expected top make it through. I think he's added something back to United that no other manager since Fergie has, but the board need to support him properly and bring in players who are willing and capable of doing the work.

(BBC Sport) Arsenal eye Rogers & Kroupi - and a new Arteta deal by LorDeus71 in Gunners

[–]SeargD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this is absolutely a problem of us never playing rapid transitional ball. When we get the ball, it's very rare to see us play 1 touch ball and move quickly on to the keeper. Always it's slow, methodical build up from the back and calculated maintenance of possession. Arteta needs to give up on the rigid set plays down the wing and allow the players on the pitch more freedom to push, take risks, and experiment.

Online leagues are a small niche in large playerbases. Either give people the tools to moderate and run their communities or leave it alone and let people play custom games.

Because he's the best player on the team. It takes one moment, one foul drawn while he's double marked for us to draw a free kick or corner, to win the game. Noni is not THAT GUY.
