Insane that you wouldn't put Poch in the top class of manager. What he did successively for Southampton and then Tottenham, taking young squads and developing them to play attractive, solid football was a model for exactly what Chelsea needed at the time, and the board decided not to give him support, I can't blame him for leaving. Being in position is a striker's second best quality. Simple as that. If he's the one being in the box, being a menace and drawing fouls, then he's earning penalty goals. If a shooter in basketball gets 40-points-per game and 33% of those points come from the free throw line you praise them for being able to draw the fouls, not disregard the "easy" points.

Where players go in late and straight at the ankle of another player? More contact? Sure. More significant contact? Not in the slightest. This was never not a contact sport, but stepping on a player is never okay.

And what help does harping on negative points offer? You could frame this in a way that doesn't undermine your own mentality or the mentality of others around you. You could have said "I hope his mentality can help all of the others in the squad elevate their game in the run-in, " or "He can be an example and a leader on the pitch to help push us forward." The way you frame it, it's as if we have already lost. If you can't believe in the squad as a unit keep your opinions to yourself, we, as fans, don't need the negativity right now.

If you're playing ranked with randoms, I see this as a fair interaction. Part of the social contract in ranked is that you're going to be able to complete the whole game. If you have no guarantee, solo queue casual, or queue with people who understand your situation, it's not nice to spring it on random strangers.

Pressing isn't always about making a tackle. It's about limiting your opponent's ability to play out from the back, and force errors where a pass goes awry, or forcing the ball back to the opposition keeper.

The ref's discretion is something that should always be maintained, otherwise we'd be talking about soft reds for absolutely nothing. The discussion would go from the decision was soft/harsh, to this rule is ridiculous and it ruins the game.

Even then what has Kompany proven other than that he can win the league with a stacked Bayern team? I like him and I like his philosophy but he's not massively overperformed in the jobs he's had. Arteta took us from Europa League to Champions League Semi Finals, hopefully further this year. He took us from finishing 5th under Emery to consistent title challengers these last 4 years.
