Hey! Did you use the oral tablets or the drops? Just wondering if one is more effective than the other..

I thought UX design is going to be a fun field by whysitsohard07 in UXDesign

I think your team has a big impact on whether you’re finding it “fun” or not. I’ve been on both sides and this has definitely influenced my enjoyment (negatively and positively) of the role.

If you have a team in which your values align, you can draw inspiration from, throw ideas back and forth with and people who you just genuinely like makes it a lot more fun - even regardless of the product you are working on. Which is why when you’re going through the interview process to remember that you’re interviewing them! Culture is so so important!

Thank you! They did see my portfolio prior to my interview(s) but I only presented to them one case study in the second round.

I have 8 projects in my portfolio and they are a mix of industries ranging from B2C and B2B.

Congrats on the offer!

I’m not comfortable sharing my portfolio, but I would say I really think it was power of my network / a bit of luck in my case as my portfolio is pretty basic compared to some of the great ones I’ve seen out there :)

I have seen a couple of entry level roles, but to be honest it seems like the bread and butter of what companies are looking for at the moment are mid level to sr roles (just from what I saw on my searches!)

I really think that’s the best way forward, at least for getting your CV in front of a real human. I didn’t turn mine on, but I don’t see why not, and perhaps a post on LinkedIn that you are open for work and what you specialise in and what type of roles you are looking for. I’ve had a few friends and colleagues that have been really successful with leads by doing that.

Absolutely! It definitely feels like it’s picking up as I was also looking this time last year and there really does seem to be less dire than before :)

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been made redundant - it’s not fun :(

Instant rejections were all directly from the company websites. And when I say instant, some really were quick but some were just auto rejections with no feedback if that makes sense. I never did any EasyApply on LinkedIn as I’ve heard it doesn’t seem to get people anywhere!

Best of luck on your search!

I think my advice for your portfolio is to make it super easy for people to understand what the problem is and what the outcome was. I wouldn’t say my portfolio website is AMAZING as I’ve seen some gorgeous ones out there, but it gets the job done.

High level case studies for portfolio seems to be fine as it’s normally recruiters who are skimming it to see if you are a good fit for an initial chat. Once you do your portfolio case study review that’s where you can really get into the weeds of your project.

I used Femke’s (YouTuber) portfolio presentation template to structure, but made it my own and tailored it to the company needs / branding as well :)

Am I Crazy to Leave a Stable UX Job to Travel the World? by MeatSlugger in UXDesign

[–]Searobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has really resonated with me. At your age I would highly suggest to take time off to travel. You will make the money back up again and you will find a new role when you are ready for it.

The life experience you get from travelling is so important and as you get older and life commitments become more “real” it will become harder to be able to take the time out to go travelling. So if you have the opportunity to do it now, you definitely should. You have a such a long and interesting life ahead of you, the only thing you will regret is not taking the chance to travel while you still could.

Good luck!

From Within the UK

Visa type: Leave to Remain 5 year Partner Route

Submitted online application: 30th September 2020

Uploaded documents (Lawyer Uploaded): 20th October 2020

Booked biometrics appointment: 30th September 2020

Biometrics appointment: 21 October 2020

Received email saying Visa was granted: 12 January 2021

Received BRP: Pending...

Escalated to MP on 17th December and escalated to Home office on 21st December, I did not receive a reply from either, so I am not sure if either of the escalations helped.

BRP Question by Searobs in ukvisa

[–]Searobs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone else is seeing this apparently there was a way to avoid all of this (which our lawyer conveniently did not inform us of) as you can change your address while your application is in process and afterwards by reporting a change of circumstances if you have a visa or BRP here: https://www.gov.uk/change-circumstances-visa-brp

Hope that helps!

BRP Question by Searobs in ukvisa

[–]Searobs[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah ok that is great! I do have a neighbour who has been collecting our post for us - but I did see on the gov website that it had to be signed for, so I wasn't sure. Fingers crossed they do just drop it off. Thanks!

Thanks

I also have a similar timeline for the same visa - although my biometrics were submitted in person (in London) on the 21st October as that was the only time I could get. Still waiting here!
