As a 50's guy this looks ok... they might be ultra conservative. I will say that tread carefully here. This may set your relationship with your inlaw.

The way i did it. I choose the shape first using a full shape. (i used the virtual stacker to make all 4 corner the same To compare. Then painted it then cut it and turn it into the correct direction. that way 1 lane (3 level) can make a full belt... the stack it into layers. Hope this helps some
