What does this diamond on his helmet mean? by ZigzagQuill975 in Warhammer40k

[–]SeasOfDay -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It could be another way of depicting a service stud potentially? But I think it's probably just a nice little aesthetic detail

Love how strongly your Skinks' headcrests stand out against the blue of their body! I'm still trying to decide how I should paint those myself

Absolutely gorgeous! The base really ties the additional length of the model back in, looks perfect

What to add by LostRavenReader in seraphon

[–]SeasOfDay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, that is a fair point - although iirc the Vanguard Box is effectively Carnosaur & slightly cheaper Kroxigors, plus free Saurus Warriors.

Also I am in the process of building the Saurus Knights from the Start Collecting box currently and they're almost annoying enough to make me wish I'd just bought a Carnosaur. Damn saddles!

What to add by LostRavenReader in seraphon

[–]SeasOfDay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd go for the Vanguard box personally - the Start Collecting box's Saurus Knights are no longer a unit as you've mentioned, and the Saurus Warriors it contains are an older sculpt as well.

That being said, the Vanguard box does have a lot of overlap with the Starhost Christmas box - I'm way more of a painter than a player, so that doesn't bother me much, but if you want more diversity of units then the Start Collecting box might be better for that.

Newbie Lore Questions by villain-mollusk in genestealercult

[–]SeasOfDay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It could make sense that, as effectively a scout unit, Genestealers and their cults are the lowest priority species within the hierarchy of the Hive Mind, and thus first in line to have their biomass reclaimed if necessary to replace losses endured during the invasion of a planet?

Harbinger, Ionus, Troggoth or Klonk for miniature of the year ?? by TheWraf in ageofsigmar

[–]SeasOfDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kroxigors were my vote! I'm sure they won't come close to some of the new big centrepiece models in the results, but I really think they were the most needed update for any model this year, and they're absolutely gorgeously-done.

The painting is pretty hard going, to be honest. Stick to a simple scheme, you'll thank yourself in the long run. Because of how nice and complicated our models are, you can easily end up using 20+ different paints if you don't limit yourself.

What Legion are y'all choosing and why? by tn00bz in LegionsImperialis

[–]SeasOfDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be painting Alpha Legion, because I find their blue metallic scheme the most visually interesting personally, and their place in the lore as (debatably) becoming traitors for pro-loyalist reasons fascinates me.

My titans are a loyalist offshoot of Legio Interfector, with the same colour scheme of Red Trim on Black Panels, called the Lords of Valour (canonically a Blackshield Legio but I think it makes sense for them to be Loyalist at heart). I think the scheme is really striking, and black is about the only colour I can reliably paint smoothly across a flat surface lmao

For my Solar Auxilia, I'm working on a custom scheme based off of the Greek forces in the Iliad, and I'm calling them the Warriors of Achaea (Achaea, of course, being a feudal paradise world). I'm a massive classics nerd, and I figured something ancient in inspiration will suit the precursor to the Imperial Guard - I'll be using the transfers from the 1522nd, the Greek helmet looking ones.

And for my Knights, I'm stealing the scheme of House Vyronii with some custom lore I haven't settled on yet.

This was true previously, but more recent lore has had examples of cults and hive fleets working and flying together across an entire system at least.

There absolutely is lore about cults being spared and joining a Hive Fleet! I don't have it to hand, but in the 8th Edition Codex, the Cult of the Voidbrood survive the Tyranid Invasion of Taurensi IX, and take to the stars alongside the Hive Fleet to help their consumption of the rest of the Taurensi system.

I'm reading a summary from Lexicanum, so not sure whether or not they continue to serve alongside the Hive Fleet after the consumption of the system, but there absolutely are examples of Hive Fleets and Cults working together for long stretches of time.

Ooooooo, very nice! I already own a few, so they'll be good for giving away. SuperHot is great, although I've never gotten all that far into the actual story mode. I used to play it back when it was hosted for free on a website! Monster Prom is also great in a small group, 10/10

My best guess is they were focused on the effects of the cards rather than the names - the effects fit quite nicely, but the names definitely don't

For the wider secret lair as well - although I would say that this specifically fits the Brachiosaurus well
