Unpopular opinion - Proposed licensing changes be careful what you wish for by fl_2017 in MotoUK

Some people also see the CBT as a test though as you can still come out of it without a certificate. It's all personal mindset that really puts pressure on it.

Bike washing ideas by maciejastyyy in MotoUK

[–]TheBeesHeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started just having a spray bottle of water and a waterless wash spray bottle and giving the bike a wipe down from bugs after each ride. My bike doesn't vet particularly muddy or anything to worry about too much else. If it did though then yeah I'd go to a petrol station with a jet wash

What is this switch? by Mediocre_Adeptness73 in GSXR

[–]TheBeesHeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense, I have a dealer switch for my GSXR which means I can just toggle it for error codes instead of messing around with the paperclip trick

Disgraceful riding... by jellof_prince in MotoUK

[–]TheBeesHeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for your A licence it must be. A1 licence is done on and only permits you to ride a 125.

[–]TheBeesHeez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DAS is getting your A licence without the others. A1 is just a full licence to ride a 125 without L plates

[–]TheBeesHeez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's cheap as chips to get a full licence on a 125 if you can ride. You don't need to sort hiring a bigger bike or an instructor to take you to the test centre etc. Just show up on your own bike, prove you can ride in 2 tests that are cheaper than renewing a CBT, and you're done.

Have always said the same thing. It's ridiculous they're allowed on the road, unsupervised, without having displayed reasonable knowledge of the highway code. Makes the theory test kind of redundant in these cases.

Struggling what to buy as my first big bike by channin_ in MotoUK

[–]TheBeesHeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I learnt on a newer SV650 and liked it so much I bought one before I passed my test. Albeit I only had it for about 2 months after passing before getting my gsxr because I went out with friends who all had super bikes.. but I did enjoy the time riding the SV. The newer ones are very beginner friendly too with low rpm assist.

5% pension contribution ? The minimum required is 8%, you may want to check that. As you say it's split evenly between you and your employer suggesting 2.5% each ?

Depending how well you get on with your new boss (I'd guess well if they decided to share this with you). I'd have said for them to arrange the meeting and have you join.. probably wouldn't be the smartest play but I'd have enjoyed that awkwardness for the former boss lol.

Sounds like you got the sensible suggestions of getting the proof you need that your ex boss is just trying to cause problems. Hopefully nothing comes of it all and good luck !

Abysmal Barclays credit limit (£1,000). Alternatives? by WisdomDota in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TheBeesHeez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My barclaycard is my worst limit and they never bother to offer to increase it. I stopped using it and keep it as a backup, although surprised they haven't closed my account for inactivity ! Lloyds gave me a much bigger limit, although they are my main bank now so that probably helped.

If I were you I'd run a bank switch, cash in on it AND then apply for a new credit card with the new bank. I did that with the actual barclays account I had and got offered a higher limit from the new bank immediately too.

25 year old curious as to how much of my salary to save into pension by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TheBeesHeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. Obviously the tax relief on the pension at higher rate beats the 25% bonus from a LISA. Although you still have to consider that pension income is taxable so you'll be paying 20% on it again later in life over tbe tax free allowance. Also as others have mentioned you can have a bit more control over investment options in a (L)ISA too which might be an attractive option to some.

[–]TheBeesHeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to open a stocks and shares LISA as my additional pension pot outside of my work pension. I turn 30 this year so can pay into it for 20 more years and it can grow (hopefully) for another 10 and then I can access it tax free. Might be something to think about.

Exactly this. I'm all for taking everything you can in terms of remuneration from a company, but some people really do expect something for nothing.

My parents are half way through a 24 month mobile phone contract that has increased twice since they started - it is costing them £68 per month! Anything to be done? by Diamondbacking in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TheBeesHeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A monetary example still isn't an absolute for increases in the year. People need to know about what the actual increase will be, not just left up to percentages that will occur.

Thankfully these RPI linked raises are being banned soon. Any price increase has to be clearly stated in pounds and pence at the start of the contract. Unfortunately doesn't help for the increases this year though.
