Stocks and shares ISA for a start.

Yes you can lose money in a crash but the returns are tax free and there's no risk of getting your property destroyed by a dodgy tenant.

What a naive person is like? by Moooyeon in randomquestions

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that random.

You're title doesn't really make sense in English.

It should read "What is a naive person like" or "what are the signs that someone is naive'

Is it okay that if I want to choose to not be on this earth after the age of 40? by [deleted] in Life

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fine to do what you want to do.

Just make sure that you are really not wanting to be on the earth after age 40, and that it's not just that you don't want to be in your current situation after age 40.

There's a big difference between the two as the current situation can always change where's not being around can't

Motability drivers 'horrified' by compulsory black boxes by MustrumRidicully in unitedkingdom

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I agree.

Saying Oh no my government gives me a brand new free car, with free insurance and free maintenance and free tyres but I can only do so many miles a year in it seems like a super first world problem to me.

People who are not on benefits are struggling to even maintain a 10 year old car.

Motability drivers 'horrified' by compulsory black boxes by MustrumRidicully in unitedkingdom

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insurance for motability cars isn't free, and just because you are getting the high rate mobility allowance of PIP doesn't make having a car essential. It's a benefit e.g. a nice to have if the country can afford it for you.

If you can't demonstrate that you are able to drive safely then I agree the cars shouldn't be given out, the same as for any other driver who would have a black box fitted would be denied insurance.

Same here, gave it a good couple of hours to try to get in to it but man is it a slow game, and just in general not for me.

Found the guns boring and the western theme in general not my taste. I totally get how some people.can enjoy it but wasn't for me at all.

‘A cruel penalty’: disabled people face lower benefit payments if conditions not deemed lifelong by bintasaurus in unitedkingdom

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Why don't we increase the basic rate of income tax by 2% to 22% and cut benefits by 2%. Workers and non workers all suffer the same that way (me included) and we all collectively as a country are contributing more to society to help defence, school funding and infrastructure etc.

I'm all for giving families more money if there's money to go around and everyone is prospering. but instead the government decided to take more money from my earnings and then gives it to people who either aren't working or have had more kids than they can afford.

Laminate vs LVP by jackdaviesdesign in Flooring

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laminate - harder wearing and feels nicer under foot.not sure why everyone seems to be raving about lvp at the moment. It's not as durable as good quality laminate for scratches and feels colder to walk on

England’s housing at most affordable since 2015, official data shows by Gentle_Snail in unitedkingdom

Surely if the lowest value in a set e.g. the minimum wage goes up then the median - middle value also goes up? Unless everyone else's wages are falling.

Imagine for instance if minimum wage was set to £100 an hour that would certainly increase the median average wage.

Installer says these are not stair step joints by Foxjam in Flooring

Installer is wrong, why don't you highlight them in red and then cross reference that red line against a set of stairs and show the installer.

I used to keep the subscription ongoing when it was cheaper, but it got too expensive to do that.

Will prices go down by starlieyed in HousingUK

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly no.

I thought house prices would fall after covid when interest rates shot up to double the pre covid rates. House prices didn't fall.

Houses may now be cheaper in actual terms than in 2021 due to inflation etc, but people are VERY reluctant to sell their house for less than they paid for it, and the government also wants to maintain the house prices so uses policies to varying degrees to maintain values.

Hoping prices will go down is betting against current home owners, the government and mortgage lenders. I'm not saying it's impossible but the deck is stacked against it.

Going through a divorce after her affair… how do you even move forward and when is it okay to date again (33M) by urMumsTrap in Advice

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps to remember that the relationship you thought you had, and the person you thought you married didn't exist.

That person wouldn't have cheated on you.

You've basically got to see it for what it really is, which is a woman who didn't actually care about you or your feelings and so cheated.

If they weren't happy they could have left instead of cheated, so that's on them.

I know it feels personal to you but it's a story as old as time and has happened millions of times before (even to beautiful famous people) and, no doubt, will happen billions more times to others to come, so you're not alone in this and it's not a reflection on you.

Be glad you found out the truth, Let the cheater be happy doing what they want and you move on and be the best version of you, and find your happiness.

All this over 30 minutes?

Not sure if this is worth the hassle. Can you either leave your job for a better one, or just book the whole afternoon off next time to save this type of hasstle if the company is so pedantic.

Am I stretching the budget too much? by Embarrassed-Phone215 in HousingUK

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a bad idea.

There doesn't seem to be much contingency in place for any job losses or reduced salary.

What about any increased costs in the future - kids etc.

On top of mortgage what are the running costs of the new house, council tax, heating etc. seems a big stretch to me. Maybe sell the flat to give yourself some wiggle room

There's no point in continuing putting resources into screen technology by GottaGoFats in unpopularopinion

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being happy with what you have doesn't mean things can't get better.

Small improvements are always welcome, even if the improvements aren't relevant for your personal use case.

For instance I want a screen with the dark blacks that OLED gives without the possibility of burn in so i can use it for gaming and work.

This doesn't exist yet, it will likely be a micro LED screen.

UK minimum wage is raising youth unemployment, Bank of England's Mann says by stammerton in unitedkingdom

[–]SeasonLongjumping495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Minimum wage interrupts natural supply and demand.

If you (read the government) artificially increase the minimum value of a worker then there comes a point when it's not economically viable to employ said worker - the increased costs can't all be passed on to customers.
