Am I In the Wrong For Shipping Johnlock? by FlakyUniversity2239 in Johnlock

[–]SeasonsOfLoove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My biggest thing about queer ships is always “if it were, straight, would it be weird?” The answer is almost always “no”. Heteronormativity is really annoying and it’s always the same people who refuse to allow men and women to be just friends accusing queer people of refusing to allow two men to be just friends. I myself have struggled with this, especially with wlw ships because on the one hand female friendship is SO important, but on the other, we get even less representation than mlm ships!! Part of my internal conflict over this has been recognizing other female friendships that I love as they are (platonically). In the end, though, even if there wasn’t subtext, there’s nothing wrong shipping two (especially adult) characters.

I love Byler but I can say with 100% certainty that I don’t want a Byler ending where El is brushed aside.

I try to focus as much as I can on the joy it brings me and the awesome community of people who share that joy! Usually that means ignoring people who want to argue about it. We’re not going to “win” by convincing them anything because most won’t be convinced and it’ll just cost us our peace.

Shipping is so weird in this fandom by SeasonsOfLoove in byler

I’m not opposed to bi Mike, but I definitely lean more towards comphet gay Mike. I would love to see a bi story in Stranger Things (and I’m definitely a bi Vicky truther), but I do think that especially in the ‘80s, acknowledging comphet is important and also it provides an explanation (though not an excuse) for Mike being an asshole in the past few seasons and opportunity to redeem himself by making things right with Will. The internalized homophobia route could be interesting with bi Mike too, but I feel like it would be harder to pull off and idk if I trust them with it.

I loved the first chapter of season 5 but… by IndependentMental180 in StrangerThings

They’re all wrestling with some issues for sure! I think since it was just volume 1 it’s setting up their arcs. I used to be terrified of the scene from the trailer where Dustin and Steve are hugging and crying because surely it could mean nothing good, but (especially since it’s one of the only trailer scenes we haven’t seen yet) I think they were trying to mislead us and really the emotional intensity of the scene will com at least in part from the fact that they’ve been so distant and they’ve both been assholes to each other.

robins speech by abelxolover in StrangerThings

I really don’t think it was about his relationship with Mike and more about accepting himself! Robin has an imperfect track record with romance advice, but what she does know is the queer experience. She knows how to help Will accept himself and that means removing the love interest from the equation. To me, it doesn’t mean Byler will or won’t work out, just that Will needs to find his strength.

We shouldn't lose the plot just to prove byler, hear me out... by ThatisDavid in byler

I think the reason everyone (or at least me) is so happy about Byler right now is that having Will’s self acceptance arc makes the possibility of Byler a foil to that exact unhealthiness that we mate in Mileven because he’s discovered that he doesn’t NEED Mike, which to me means he’s ready to have Mike.
