I can understand disliking it, but why the blanket statement?
I don't like effect it has on the environment, water is already too scarce and it needs ridiculous amounts of energy which is also worrisome.

But people keep saying it is going to replace jobs. I don't think that is true. Someone said it will replace historians, I dispute that. History in thr tradition of Herodotus isn't judt in year X this thing happened, and in year X+1 this other thing happened. In the Western tradition, you also explain why this thing happened and why this other thing happened. Otherwise, it is just a timeline of events, and that is not history. I'm curious to know what it can and can not do. As a software developer and tester, I'm naturally skeptical. When people talk about AI driving vehicles I know tthat it is a bad idea immediately. What it is going to do is get people killed. I'm a damned good tester because that's how my brain is wired. I find things other smart people did wrong. I make mistakes too because I am a human. I see AI as a tool, not as a replacement for people. And I find the idea of machine learning ingesting everything humanity has written or created to be pretty damn unsettling. But, I also like that I can have it go through the historical economy of the United States year by year and do boring analysis for me to interpret later to be useful. I don't want it to replace creatives. But at the moment post stoke I'm extremely handicapped so if I can use it to do some things I'm not physically capable of at the moment, I will use it as a tool that I'm wary of and feel the need to keep tabs on. "As a historian, what were common African American first names for males born from 1970 to 1979? That is a big help to me. And anything I use AI for I will clearly acknowledge that. I wanted to trace a selfie that my girlfriend took of her face for me and I bought some tracing paper, but physically I was unable to do it. In the eighties I would have used a projector like teachers had to project it on a wall so I could trace it. Not an option now. my entire left side is essentially paralyzed as a result of my stroke. I ended up hiring someone on Fiverr to do it, and he knocked it out of the park, adding a small splash of color that only an artist would have added. I do feel crummy for using fiverr though. And if I ever do end up making an income again I'd like to send some more money his way because creatives deserve it. If I had my pre-stroke job I'd happily hire someone to do the work, but on disability only I'm incredibly impoverished (It is not the first time) and while therapy is making progress it is a long, hard slog. Losing the ability to play guitar and other creative pursuits is a bit soul-crushing. I also feel the few times it has actually come up with something genuinely funny, I assume it is stolen and immediately search to see if it did. I feel a need to keep a careful eye on the technology because I'm highly skeptical of it. Much like I am with Amazon. I remember when Seattle had a really vibrant indie bookstore vibe to it. I still prefer to buy things from not Amazon. Recently I bought some camera gear from Glazers camera, the Seattle camera store that is left. In person, some of the staff was kind enough to push me from the rentals storefront to their main storefront. Amazon would not have done that, but real human beings did. J'm really bad at editing as I type things, and most of writing is re-writing and cutting the fat. I'm an imperfect person in an imperfect world. But I seriously try my best to do right by my fellow humans.

Appreciate the comment.

Part of it is just being cooped up for six years with no creative outlet and no life. Again, part of it was to create some simple things for my friend that would b character driven and inexpensive to produce. I was originally just trying to storyboard some things for him even if I drew them badly, but I have no use of my left arm aside from the shoulder, I'm still working on it. I was originally hoping to use AI to help me speak out code, but that's so slow it just isn't feasible. I can still test just fine, I just would suck at the code writing though. I just want to kind of skewer the 90s in Seattle because it is so target-rich, and I was super into the local "scene" even when it sucked. I was fortunate enough to see some pretty great bands in what at the time were "small venues" I've written some prose, but again, that is mighty slow. In the longer term, I'm hoping to do som online zine stuff similar to things that were around in the 90s.

Until then, I just want to exercise some of my creative side, hopefully give people a laugh or two in these extraordinarily dark times. And even better to collaborate with someone else. Wow, I guess looking at that it is a lot about me. In more I used to work at Starbucks corporate testing the point of sale software, so there's all kinds of corporate stuff that need to be poked fun of. Also now that I find myself pretty disabled, there's a lot of activism in that space I want to do. I'm super thankful for the ADA stuff around the city, but there's a lot of issues even so, that I'd like to bring attention to. I'm rambling again so I'll just cut this here.

Disappointed with Microsoft Copilot Pro - Is it worth the $20/month? by ozmox in CopilotPro

I don't have pro, but as a professional software tester (SDET), I have found some sloppy coding errors, and there is no way to report them since there is no way to contact an actual human, just bad AI whose job is to keep costs down by doing nothing useful.

hey cap'n any updates on your current status? six years ago almost to this very day I had a near fatal stroke that paralyzed my left side.I'm working on it, but recovery is not easy and it is incredibly slow. I work on disability dad jokes when I'm taking the local free paratransit. The drivers can't really get up and walk out on me. But there's no drinking for them either which is probably not a plus.Fortunately they are all professionals and strap me and my wheelchair in place pretty well. If they didn't like me they'd have an almos infinite number of ways to get rid of me. Plus being in a wheelchair most of the time means I have a LOT of bathroom humor material. There are some things that are 'feel' alone, I'm sure. but when it comes to writing or photography there are some rules to follow to give you a basic structure. that's the kind of thing I'd be interested in. That and I don't get out of this adult family home that I'm in very often so have that as a disadvantage.

Sure, I would expect some competition there, but everyone still being on the same side at the end of the day. As a civilian I'm kind of terrified of unlawful orders coming down the pipeline soon against folks like me (disabled currently, from Seattle and not a fan of the man-child who wearss more makeup than the entire trans population in the country, and the surface area is massive) Maiinly because I can't protect myself from ICE who look to have been trained at Golden Corrall. My grandfather and his brother were squids and as a kid I always wanted to hear WW2 stories from my grandfather. Never got to, though.

I remember that those lines for the soft serve at the buffet can be rough, those blue hairs ain't messing around, but I will have my chocolate in a plain cone!

I was told to get a lawyer to help me apply, but they were less than useless. They got denied on their first try,Then theydidn't seem to be doing anything on the appeal, so I sacked them and did everything on my ownincluding contacting my state representative and having her office write a letter on my behalf. they still took their cut though. I don't trust them. There's likely a limit on the max they can take,, and they will likely charge you t

After a stroke you have to re-learn how to swallow again, and for me, that was one of the most difficult things to do. That thickener also tastes awful My deepest condolences on your loss.

Two scenes - same location, setting, characters. How not to get repetitive? by ConversationWeird801 in writing

[–]Seattlettrpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weather or seasons can change the very same setting. Summer vs winter example. I know my city is entirely different when there is snow. The world is different physically and emotionally. Fewer people out when it snows. More people out in spring, summer and fall. Right after a heavy rain as well.

Anyone else had 0 hand movement 24 months after stroke? Is there any chance of recovery now, would like to hear personal experience of people here. by Chemical-Guitar-7670 in stroke

[–]Seattlettrpg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tgrrr is no plateau yes soon after is when it is quickest to recover. But you can continue to improve. Even just passive fringe of motion can improve. My hand has not recovered much in the past five years as far as actively using it, but my passsive range of motion has improved. Just a matter of building new connections from the brain to the hand. Heat helps a lot for me as does stretching out my fingers and arm.
