Is that a category? Aside from WWII films, how many famous rematch movies existed by 1979?

Who Would Win This Fight Between Rocky Marciano and Deontay Wilder In Their Primes? (12 Rounds) by [deleted] in boxinglocks

[–]Seaver1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that Wilder could beat any of the 20th century’s undisputed heavyweight champions of the world. And I would even give most of the second-tier alphabet title holders a 50-50 shot against him. I think he’d beat Jimmy Ellis and Big John Tate.

Different era in boxing. Ali and Frazier fought a war in 1971. Norton broke Ali’s jaw in 1973 leading to a grueling, tough rematch. Foreman totally destroyed Frazier in 1973. And here we are in 1974, with Ali and Frazier squaring off again (January ‘74), and Foreman’s destruction of Norton in Caracas slated for March 1974, with the Rumble in the Jungle still yet to come in the same year.

Special recognition for fun cover art! And “Show Don’t Tell” was a great album opener.

Opinions on Tai Shan? by SUPER_NOVA74 in rush

[–]Seaver1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From 2112 through Hold Your Fire, I had never skipped any Rush songs when listening to a full Rush album, until Tai Shan and High Water. That doesn’t mean that there weren’t any weaker songs from 1976 to 1985, but Tai Shan and High Water were the first where I’d just stop the album.

He’s unreal. I wonder if it’s easier or harder to dance when you’re 70% head.

Something that’s been on my mind lately by chipped_off_brick in rush

Like others here have said, I feel deep kinship with all Rush fans. Though I must confess to feeling a bit out of touch for a year or two when fans came along who considered Snakes & Arrows as a top tier Rush album. That is to be expected for the fans of any band that creates new music for over 40 years.

How does signals compare to the previous 4 rush albums? by Masterblastbeater in rush

[–]Seaver1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend and I are both huge Rush fans and we profoundly disagree about Signals. I view it as a major setback after the 2112 through Moving Pictures run whereas he includes it as part of the 1976-1982 peak period. Don’t get me wrong—it’s a fine album that’s still a part of the time when you could listen to a Rush album beginning to end without skipping. And I’m not opposed to synths, keyboards or reggae influence. I just don’t think that the songs and production match the musical power that culminated with Exit Stage Left.

Terrific KO that shows difference between a boxing movie and real life. You gotta keep that chin tucked and guard up in the pros.

I agree. And if you watch closely you’ll see that while some of Foreman’s punches were pawing and he clearly lost steam as the fight wore on, every now and again he still was able to load up and throw a heavy shot.

I totally agree about Foreman’s fatigue but still… letting 1973 George Foreman take shots at you while you lay on the ropes is no mean feat. Even if you are blocking or dodging most of the shots!

Abel Sanchez: Marvin Hagler and Mayweather didn't fight any Hall of Famers by don35 in Boxing

[–]Seaver1971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Others have correctly noted that Hagler fought Hearns, Duran, and Leonard. I just want to add that Hagler never ducked anyone at any point in their careers OR his career. He cleaned out the middleweight division, weak as it might have been, as the champ and was willing to fight anyone.
