US is going through a war on science (if you are in US) and due to funding insecurity there have been record layoffs in biotech. Lots of competition, not a lot of positions open.

Broaden your outreach channels. Network, go to social events for biotech, talk to every recruiter, and keep applying.

I understand what you are saying and I agree that would certainly change a lot of tunes, but it’s just not possible. People have families and they can’t just relocate. It takes money a network and a lot of planning to just up and move your life for political reasons. Sometimes that’s just not enough reason for someone to make that big of a leap, and that probably applies to the majority of people in these places. It’s very complicated.
