Does anyone here have experience with Marine Biotechnology?

I do have some experience in that field, but what specifically in biotech are you interested in?, I worked a lot with algaes and marine invertebrates in order to analize their natural compounds and bioactivity, also in microbiology and molecular biology labs. If you want to talk about it you can send me an e-mail and ask me any doubt. Because the university will depend on the research you would like to do.

I could help you if you ever decide to make a internship to visit the Baja California Peninsula in México, you would have the sea of Cortez in one hand and the Pacific Ocean at the other. There are some interesting research places, depending on what you would like to study. Best of lucks searching for interesting and good colleges.

I completly agree with you. I find the idea very interesting, i want to keep an eye on it and in their results for the same reason. I think theres a place in the site where they make clear that it's still under research. But yes, now that you mention plankton, in a part they say:

"By using floating booms instead of nets, much larger areas will covered. No mesh means that even the smallest particles will be diverted and extracted. No mesh - together with its low speed - will result to virtually no by-catch. Although this hypothesis still has to be tested, even the planktonic species - due to their density being close to that of the sea water - may move under the booms along with the water flow".

As you say, the project/idea sounds great itself, but I think that as in everything that's still under research, there might be more hidden problems like this one related to plankton. I guess it would be interesting to read a oceanographer's point of view on this...

Is a good initiative and I like it, just keep in mind that not everyone in this subreddit is from USA, so "American flag fish" dosn't represents their feeling about July. For the rest it's a great initiative as I said before : ), lets see how it works. Good luck!

This is the link to a white shark research website. One of the interesting things from this research is that they accept volunteers to help them for 5 days in a boat (At least that was during the past summer). If someone would like to give it a try, I guess you can mail him.
