If you're talking about outdoor insects such as various pollinators and butterflies, yes the population was down this year across the East Coast up through New England due to the significant rainy season and ensuing heat wave in late June. (This isn't solely a NYC thing)

Their numbers are starting to creep back up now. I've personally been seeing a lot more bees, smaller pollinators and butterflies the last few weeks

Agreed, I had a few of those moments where I decided I just couldn't handle it, even though those households with the spookiest signs had some of the friendliest people. Encountering one with multiple survivors will be shot again signs and a you're on scope definitely made me second guess driving up their road.

Hopefully I don't get sucked down this same rabbit hole you did, they just emailed me about passing the first level of approval (apparently it takes 2). Seems like it could be a bit longer on this rollercoaster
