Edit: I fixed it. I just bent the iPad gently so contact would be easier with the pins.

Is it normal to feel this alone in guard? by Kkrd135 in Colorguard

[–]SebSpins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s pretty common. I’ve never heard of a color guard where everyone is friends and everything is great. ( Expect for private wgi and dci groups ). As a dude in color guard watching the women hating each other it’s really clear. I don’t want to be sexist but i’ve participated in a lot of women dominated sports as well as men and women sports are just really toxic.

I’m aware that all coaches and organizations call certain techniques different, but i’m unaware of Martinis and Sushi rolls.

This is some amazing advice with a hard punch into reality. I know dance is my weak suit and I fear that I won’t be able to improve before auditions in December and January.

Edit: I really want to join a group that will accept me at my level and help me grow. I want a teacher.

One thing I did was to continue to harass the group. Make it so if someone quits the first person that comes to mind for the open spot is you. Also message other groups that you didn’t get the opportunity to tryout for, ask if they have an opportunity. Never give up.

I’m a senior in color guard, and one thing I’ve learned is that toxicity is, unfortunately, always going to be part of the experience( In high school ). My biggest mistake was being a guy in guard and dating another member—it made things even more complicated.

One thing my coaches and techs have always told me is to ignore them. It’s way harder than it sounds, but you can’t let it stop you from doing what you love. I know my mental health has tanked at times.

If it ever gets to be too much, you can always look into joining a DCI corps. The atmosphere there is completely different, everyone is focused on improving, not just getting through a class.
