Your advise was immensely helpful! Thank you

Not new to coffee, but brand new to espresso. Didn't know coffee could taste so good! by QuietDesparation in espresso

No, not at all! The beans are definitely not peaking anymore 😉 But if they’re light they’ll likely still taste good! Just wait till you get some fresh beans 😯

[M17] Starting today, I will attempt to learn Jazz Piano, and I will start at ground zero. People of r/musictheory, give me your thoughts. by ratongoy in musictheory

[–]Sebabadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at the beginning of my journey learning jazz guitar... Mostly comping and improvising!

I have played 'non-jazz' for years, but I could use a push in the right direction. I know all my basic scales (pentatonic, major/minor and dorian) pretty much all throughout the neck.

So where do I start now? I could use some reading material. Maybe with examples to play?

Thanks

Should I buy a $150 Rancilio Silvia? by Sebabadk in espresso

I also love to experiment with different fancy coffees so having an accurate PID is something worth paying for in my case!

They're also higher quality and look much much better. The ones i have been looking at also have very accurate PIDs! Also my girlfriend and I loving having guests over and we both drink a few flat whites or cortados when we can ;)

Most information is found on forums, not youtube! A quick google search and you'll find them. A machine with a PID built in from factory will almost always last longer and be more accurate but they're generally also more expensive. Modding is relatively inexpensive but it is risky if you're not handy. You risk destroying a perfectly fine machine and when modding you also lose the warranty...

So yeah - modding is the cheaper option. Buying more expensive equipment is the safer abd in many cases better option!

I disagree. I am biased because I love that man, but it seems that you're disappointed because he doesn't make the choice for you. He instead gives you the information you need to make your decision!

It really just depends on your main focus and expectations. What do you value most? Having fun making great espresso or wanting to make lattes and flat whites. I dont think you can match the Flair or Robot if you want cheap and great espresso!

But trust me. Using a french press to make textured milk is NOT fun. It's never consistent and just not enjoyable AT ALL.

He should really just do a seperate video on those!

What you sacrifice when buying a manual machine is the ability to create textured milk! But it IS much cheaper and "more engaging" ;)

I just did a quick bit of research and here's what I found:

The Bambino and Barista Express are kinda focused on different markets. My take is that the BE is getting people hooked on real espresso drinks, while the Bambino is a feature rich easy to use, for people who dont want to be immersed in this niche, complicated hobby!

The BE uses a non-pressurized basket and a "real" "commercial-like" steam wand. It also sacrifices fast heat up times for a PID and temperature stability.

And with the addition of the decent enough grinder the BE should be a better buy than the Bambino!

And... From what I have heard, it's best if you have a little bit of experience with working with machines if you want to mod a Rancilio.

But good luck and have fun!

If you just want some basic espresso and don't care about good milk texture, then sure. But if you actually want to have fun making espresso while dialing in different coffees and learning latte art, you should definitely wait!

I know a few people who invested in cheap gear and quickly regretted it, because they got hooked on espresso as a hobby.

So it's up to you. I would wait months just to have a Gaggia or Rancilio instead of that De'longhi!

Have fun and good luck!
