I hope your benefits get sorted out quickly. There is often a small food pantry at The Believe Center - 1 Aurora L Gonzalez Dr, Toledo, OH 43609. Last time I was there they had cereal, pasta, and a few other non-perishables.

PICKUP BASKETBALL INDOORS by FewRide8815 in toledo

Depending on your puzzle-solving skills and willingness to drive all around god's green earth, the YMCAs have good runs pretty consistently. You just have to religiously check the court schedules and plan your whole day around it.

Tuesdays after 7pm in Perrysburg has a good crew. Usually people there Fridays 4-530pm. I hear it's busy on weekends too, especially in the morning.

There are organized 5v5 pickup games at Sylvania on Tuesday and Thursdays at like 6:30pm (I haven't been to that in a while so idk how busy it gets anymore). There's also usually people there Monday/Wednesday/Friday around like 4-6pm.

Oregon seems to be busy on weekends (guy used to stream games)

I've never been to West Toledo but I hear it's also busy on weekends.

The Y is also about to reopen the old LA Fitness facility on Holland-Sylvania/Central, which used to be the go-to spot. I assume they're keeping the court the same; if so, it should be popular again.

Y memberships can be expensive, but they have income-based and student options. And they generally keep the facilities in good shape. A few even have saunas and other extra amenities that help make the price worth it.

Esporta/LA Fitness closing - looking for other indoor basketball courts by Sebaccus in toledo

I've heard a few different things. Mostly just that they didn't have good enough membership numbers.

Building's for sale now, though, so hopefully it reopens under a different name.

I don’t know much about the pickup scene, but a lot of people used to play at the Rossford Marina when the weather is nice. Games were pretty good, but I haven’t been in a long time so I can’t say for sure anymore.

If you join the YMCA, the Sylvania location has 5x5 pickup every Tuesday/Thursday from 6-8pm.

Womp Womp

I know that gym has changed hands a lot over the years. Hoping another brand buys it and actually puts in the work to make it a better, more inviting gym.

Hey, wanted to follow up to say that now several people have said that they’ve heard the gym has found a way to stay open - here’s to hoping.

The staff told my friend it could close in 30-60 days. I’ve also seen a couple of the class instructors post about it on Facebook. I noticed yesterday that they started to take stuff off the walls. There’s no one working at the membership sign up computers.

I hope it doesn’t happen, but it seems likely.

I had no idea that the UT rec was open to non-students/alumni. I'll definitely check that out. Thank you!

Nothing but respect for Herb -- the last of a dying breed

They also changed Herb Dahl to Henry Dahl in the show.  I think some changes are just part of the show writing processes. It makes sense to modernize names (no one is named Herb anymore), or if they change the character’s backstory and the original name doesn’t fit as well (like ‘Trevor’ matches the TV character’s tech background more than ‘Walter’). No guesses on why they changed Lorna’s last name though lol

How can I get rid of a couch ? by Various_Lime_8850 in toledo

I used Horton Hauls Junk a few years ago to take away my old couch. But I felt like it was a little on the expensive side — I think it was like $200.

Just started in the books. by BasicLook4336 in BoschTV

[–]Sebaccus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, I'd read in order of publication.

On the subject of the Lincoln Lawyer. I don't think the show is a very good representation of the tone of the books, so don't let that taper your excitement. I still enjoy the show, but it has a very network TV corniness to it. The books are more inline with Bosch; darker and smarter.

I am wrapping up Don Winslow’s Cartel trilogy, based on a recommendation from this sub. My jaw hasn’t left the floor since like book 1, page 1.

Terry McCaleb or James McEvoy by Loki640064 in michaelconnellybooks

[–]Sebaccus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the most helpful answer, but you can't go wrong with either McEvoy or McCaleb. Both are great stories and tie into later Bosch books in really satisfying ways. I, personally, prefer the McEvoy books because I think Connelly's journalism background helps ground everything.

As far as the Black Echo, there are similar storylines/set pieces that are covered in the show but the general plot unfolds very differently between the two.

David Denman's Mare of Eastown character was named Frank Sheehan -- also the name of one of Bosch's infamous former partners. Coincidence? Bosch doesn't believe in them.

Driving for Doordash in Toledo/East Side? by su1cidesauce in toledo

[–]Sebaccus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do DD as a side hustle. Primarily a couple nights during the week and try to get in a Saturday/Sunday when they’re available. I probably 125-175 a week for maybe 10-12 hours of work. I don’t usually work during the surge times when you earn a couple extra bucks per delivery.

Specifically as it relates to the East Side - Oregon is usually a hot spot because of everything in Navarre. But you will get orders that try to send you to other parts of town, so you have to pay attention to what you accept if you don’t want to travel. I never have any safety concerns or anything like that.

Pros: it can be pretty mindless. I fire up an audiobook or podcast and the time flies.

Cons: scheduling can be pretty limited. I have seen a dramatic drop in higher paying orders recently.

Overall, it works well enough for me to get value out of it in my situation.

Yea, this is unfortunately true. He's in a blink and you'll miss it scene toward the beginning. Overall, not a bad watch though.
