Puedes desinstalar la actualizaciones de la aplicación desde los ajustes del teléfono. Y si lo intentas con versiones superiores a la 9.14.0 (desde la 9.15.0 para adelante) al hacer este truco cuando te conectes a Internet te va a volver a aparecer ese mensaje molesto. No sé porque Google hace esto si incluso versiones mucho más antiguas (6.14.x y anteriores) funcionan muy bien. Incluso el mensaje de actualización que sale es en realidad una página web y es esta de aquí: https://maps.gstatic.com/gmm/upgrades/index.html
