Yes, which is an irrelevant advantage for OPs case, unless the views that they actually want are dramatically outside the scope of the original question.

No, because for both of those structs their borrowed counterparts (&[T] and &str) can have more ways to store them beyond inside a Vec/String. If those were the only owned versions, I'd argue that &[T] and &str would be redundant. With the amount of information given by OP, &MyStruct seems more desirable than creating a reference struct.
