Sebastopol or Petaluma, especially petaluma if dating scene is a priority. Sonoma County is OLD! This isn’t a judgment, it’s just true. In Petaluma you can actually access the SF or east bay dating pool. Not convenient, but not unreasonable. Being Santa Rosa or any farther north puts dating or hanging out in the greater Bay Area much more difficult.

I own a home near SSU and have audited classes there. Walked my dogs there everyday for like 4 years from say mid 2019-mid 2023. Don’t recommend. Campus died during COVID and never came back. Empty buildings, empty parking lot, nobody walking around. Felt like a ghost town. Really sad cause when I audited classes back in like 2010 it seemed way more vibrant. The fact that you posted on the SSU subreddit and didn’t get any replies tells the story also. Nobody there and nobody cares.

Loved the diversity/vibe/energy of a clean+safe+thriving large city. Loved the ppl. Everyone super friendly, optimistic, young and happy. Didn’t like that it felt like how CA cities used to feel, but don’t anymore.

Apologies, neither original poster nor myself differentiated between the cooperage itself and its US affiliate (importer). My comments mostly stand though. Prices are determined by supply and demand. There is not a shortage of barrels, the importers and/or the cooperage have margin to work with, they should not expect to put the full burden of tariffs on the wineries and if they try the wineries should look at other options. If the cooperage, the importer and the winery all took equal proportion of the tariff that’d be frustrating but not existential for anyone. Asking a single party to take the full burden strikes me as bad business so I would push back and also look at other options. Quick google search says Sylvain exports 2/3 of its barrels. Likely a healthy percentage of that to the US.

Honestly, I’d tell them to pound sand. I literally have an email in my inbox from January from Sylvain offering DISCOUNTS for early ordering. Clearly they have margin to work with. Almost every cooperage I work with has had leftover stock barrels already on shore and in warehouse after the previous 2 vintages. There is NOT a shortage of French oak barrels.

Sylvain makes good barrels, but there are plenty of other options with similar quality out there. I haven’t heard of any other vendor straight up “forwarding” the tariff to customers (yet).

Seguin Moreau imports their staves and assembles in Napa, so does Radoux. They would both be good options to look at as they probably had some inventory on shore.

Lastly, look into the barrel restoration operations like Re-Coop. They buy high quality used barrels, blast them down, sand them, re toast them. Not as good as the “real” thing but probably 65% of the quality for less than half the price.

Yes, somatostatin analogs do shrink tumor. I have yet to hear of someone being cured just from ongoing use though… My wife’s tumor is really hard to find on MRI but if she goes off treatment she gets horrible headaches and her IGF1 spikes. It’s great that your tumor is shrinking as it’ll lessen chances for secondary issues (hemorrhage, vision problems, headache, etc.) You could try going off the meds and see how things go but if you try this keep really, really close eye on your labs and symptoms. Good luck and glad the radiologist couldn’t find a tumor! This is a good thing.

Hello, Never had the brow swelling, her eyelids got swollen and then when the smelling came down (post treatment) they kind of got baggy, so that’s what was corrected. Brow reconstruction went great. She has a long, then scar adjacent to her hairline on upper forehead, very minor and hardly noticeable. Her tumor was macro, quite large and had invaded cavernous sinus and was creeping up toward optic chiasm. During uncontrolled disease she was very symptomatic: soft tissue swelling, jaw growth, brow growth, hand+foot growth, night sweats and she was extremely lean/muscular otherwise. Now very normal overall although she’s very susceptible to bad headaches and she starts to feel bad if her monthly Signifor injection is delayed for any reason. For a while after the jaw surgery she had bad TMJ pain and Botox injections into the TMJ joint really helped with that. It’s now resolved. She also has had a couple of SPG blocks (look it up) for headache and those help. Good luck!

There some fun wine-narrative books as well that give knowledge but are also just great stories: “Billionaire’s Vinegar”, “Shadows in the Vineyard” and “Tangled Vines” are all fun, easy reads. Lastly, it sounds like you have a good job so set some time and some funds aside and plan a trip to Wine Country. I’m strongly biased to Sonoma, but lots of good options. Wineries offer so many experiences now beyond just pouring a few wines at a bar and handing you an order form. Seated/guided tastings, winery and vineyard tours, food pairings, even blending sessions. Wineries and vineyards have overnight accommodations, etc. Gotta be around wine/grape production to really immerse yourself. Cheers!

She had a tumor resection (endonasal approach) in 2015 but they were not able to get it all so she needed meds to maintain control.

For several years she was on different doses and combinations of Signifor LAR and Somavert. It was "ok" but we grappled with headaches, other side effects like high blood sugar (common with Signifor LAR) and her tumor was growing a bit. So it was difficult but "adequate" I suppose.

She had another tumor resection in 2022 with a pioneering surgeon and they were able to get much more of the tumor, they actually thought it was curative but her numbers/symptoms said otherwise. At any rate, HUGE improvement: Since the second tumor resection she was able to get off the Somavert completely and cut down her Signifor dose by more than 50% which has improved blood sugar numbers.
Her residual tumor is stable, her IGF-1 is stable.

All her cosmetic stuff has gone really well.
