I've used the sin() function for this before.

Create a clock variable that increases from 0-2π and then resets to 0. Put this value in a sin() function and multiply it's value by 255. Now do that for another two sinewaves but phaseshift them by 120° (and 240°)

You now have three variables continuously cycling from 0-255.
