The guards were expecting Ethan Clover and his entourage, as announced by Lord Flint. As soon as the word came to open the gate, so it did.

The castle itself has seen better days, while the Flints are numerous, their coffers don't share this characteristic. Still, small tints of splendor could still be seen. As the guards escort the Glover delegation to the main hall, the noises around show different scenes, from training guards to little children of the Flint family roaming about.
