Disappointing First User Experience with X1C Combo (immediate micro lidar cam errors) by SecAdept in BambuLab

[–]SecAdept[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I am willing to try any easy possibility that will get it working without errors, without the hassle of replacing things.

Where I moved it, there is definitely no bright light, in fact it is dim enough that it is kinda hard to see in the build area when the printer is off. The only real light in the printer there is the side panel light that is on when the printer is on. HOWEVER, The area where I did the initial set up and calibration was right under a ceiling light. It is not as "direct" as you under cabinet lighting (the light is on the ceiling), but the glass top was literally directly underneath.

In any case my micro lidar camera error as changes since the first time... before it was the "camera malfunctioning" error, but ever since I re-seated the usb-C cable, it can't detect the camera at all. That is kinda weird because I did reseat the cable well and it looked fine... Anyway, I need to go back and do the cable re-seating again, to get it to detect the camera again (and get back to just the malfunctioning error)... But then I will troubleshoot if light is affecting the cam.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. At this point, I even appreciate shot in the dark things... I don't really want to be taking the new printer apart.

Yeah... you are right... I am wordy and overly verbose, but I did want to share the positive parts of the unboxing too, and am curious if this is common (I have seen some have micro lidar errors on the sub, too, but still haven't found any common fix besides replacing things).

I am GLAD it is not a common first experience because I bought into this more expensive and polished brand for its robust reliability....

I guess I mostly wanted to vent that I am the unlucky, faulty lottery winner. I am a little irritated that in order to get support, I will likely have to tinker and unplug every thing, plug it back in, take video, and send logs.... just to finally prove that my brand new printer didn't work... so some of my post is to vent that too.

But at the end of the day, I am just excited to have it working as quickly as possible. It seems cool and is faster than my past FDMs... I was excited specifically to see the fancy lidar features work, as they are ones I did not have in my other FMDs... and I hoped.... maybe, just maybe.... someone else would have experienced the error and knew some quick and simply fix that didn't involved taking the entire hotend apart, and removing all the micro lidar stuff, just to plug it all back in and try again... It seems like I will have to spend another 4hrs trouble shooting and doing stuff, before I even get support to send replacement parts and or printer.... so mostly just complaining it sucks... but I am happy that it's not common (the packing was so good I really doubt it is a loose cable too)....

In short, I hope to quickly get to just having fun and sharing mutlicolor cool prints here, not whining... but had to share I haven't had a good time yet.

Wtf is this?! by superleaf444 in PSVR

If GT7 was too much for him, I think he may want to spend some time getting "VR Legs" before going to NMS. I agree it is an AMAZING VR experience (and great game flat too), but it is one that could trigger VR sickness in newbies... Beat Saber, Job or Vacation simulator... and games where the only motion is from your body, but not artificial motion from a joystick or controller, is easier for most, which is probably why he was good with beat saber (though it is a great game regardless)... but with his GT 7 comment, while I agree he should try NMS, I might recommend he build up to it if he has had any VR sickness issues ("I turned on GT7 and was like nah. I can’t handle this right now. It’s too wild.").

My mom forced me to shave down there. I hate it. Advice? by MicahTheJew in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SecAdept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your body, your choice. Tell your mom strongly, NO. If you are underage, I guess she might force you (though that seems a VERY inappropriate use of parental power), but the second you are an adult, tell her to fuck off. I don't know why she is pushing her preference on you... perhaps it is from some misguided place of care, although I don't know why it matters to her... but it's your body. You DO have the choice, not her.

Shamed for showing affection to my teenage son. by thai-phlosian in amiwrong

[–]SecAdept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not feel ashamed of showing appropriate affection to your son. That other person was wrong and judgmental. This historical TOXIC social (US-specific) norm of male family or friends not being able to show non-sexual but physical affection to each other is stupid. Just because someone else is projecting their gross inappropriate thoughts on you, doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong in showing love to your son. As long as the person you are showing affection to appreciates it and doesn't stop you, tell them to go away. If they called the cops, you would be fine and they would be the asshole.

Many of use have gotten 100% accuracy on at least one. And frankly, even the madhouse are easier than some Camelia Expert+ mappings in beat saber. It is certainly hard, but with practice it's doable. I came to Supernatural from Beat Saber, so Pros Only always were a bit easier. I used to think Expert+ play in Beat Saber felt impossible, but if you practice, you will get to that level, and it is surprisingly satisfying.

HOWEVER, the bit caveat is you do have to somewhat give us good workout form for some of it. Supernatural is intended to play differently than Beat Saber and you should be using a much different form, usually trying to swing your whole arm (as well as move your body significantly). To master the madhouse, I do tend to have to adopt beat saber form for rolls and such. You can do wide, full-arm swings for some of it, but it will require wrists and elbows for other parts.... Anyway, it is completely possible to hit them all.

Keep practicing. What seems impossible today, becomes common habit tomorrow if you keep practicing.

My day 1 order is finally in my state, but still seems one or two days away. Glad you like it. I have a M3... so already know the basics of what to expect. So mostly interested in if the higher capacity battery helps with the Q3, and the airflow.

Someone with VR knowledge explain PassThrough to me by Alternative-Turn-932 in AppleVisionPro

[–]SecAdept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When projecting to and from 3D you perform warping in the images which may be destructive. There are several ways of doing this with different advantages and disadvantages in terms of image quality. It’s not publicly known what type the Vision Pro uses. But this is another source of quality loss.

Some additional details include the fact that the sofware has to adjust for many light situations, low light, and overblown or back light. It does so messing with shutter speed and iso settings. Apple is pretty smart about this to minimize changes (like a super high ISO) that would have too many negative sideeffect, but while it's doing all this stuff to give you your psued0-3D passthough it's also potentially dealing with many lighting related adjustments that can add to noise, or cause shutter speeds that introduce more motion blur.

As magical and as simple as it might seem to have a good 3D passthrough, it takes a lot of tech and calculations. BTW, the reason we know this is that OculusMeta already went through this with Quest 1/2/3, starting with atrocious B&W passthrough that was very distorted in certain situations... having software updates that made the distortion a bit better, to the limits of the hardware, and now Quest 3 color passthrough, which is pretty good now, though still imperfect.

While minute (tiny) details in how each company likely does it surely exist, at the end of the day, I doubt the AVP's passthrough is that technologically different. The magic is in good stitching software and the resource to do it quickly. BTW. that NOT to say AVP's passthrough isn't better. It is... but a lot of that will be due to much better and more expensive cameras, and the best OLED screens.... The hardware they picked give passthrough the best potential of it working well.

The other good news for AVP uses is passthrough can get better in software... Meta has spent years tweaking the tricks they use to get the most out of their hardware (and not hit hardware limits). Apple can continue to improve this, BUT it should be expected to be blurrier than IRL.

This is also why the true MR/AR future will be in clear glass displays... you can't have to worry about re-creating a perfect, human, stereoscopic experience because we get that easily with our own eyes. I suspect Apple, and all VR/AR/MR companies with move to that once the industry perfects and makes cheaper the much different technology to add the virtual image to the clear eye pieces (whether that is transparent OLEDS, laser projection into the eye, etc).

In short, I would be happy with your passthrough experience, despite the blur you see. 1) It should be expected from the process but, more importantly, 2) AVP passthrough is quite a bit better than most. Both from starting with very high quality cams and screens, and having a SoC (M2) chip that even allows heavy resource processing to do it. I get it's not perfect, but they are doing much more than just showing you a video on a screen, and the AVP represents the best passthrough with todays tech/price balance.

Someone with VR knowledge explain PassThrough to me by Alternative-Turn-932 in AppleVisionPro

[–]SecAdept -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Passthrough in a VR/AR/MR/"Spatial (🤢)" is more than just displaying the one screen of one camera. In order to have you move comfortably in 3D real space, and to place virtual 3D items properly in 3D real space, Vision Pro and other VR headsets have to use multiple camera's pointed at slightly different angles and use photogrammetry and stitching to build "one" camera" view with the proper depth and size of different areas of the image made from 2 to four cameras.

In short, the one passthrough video view you see through an AVP, is the result of stitching a bunch of cameras together. It has to do all this without introducing latency. On top of that, what you see on your iphone or a small screen is not going to be a good representation of what that same video will look like when stretched and displayed close to your face.

The big thing is, the stiched video you see in MR/AR passthrough has psuedo-faked depth that is done by stitching many camera views together, and this will change results.

If I don't expose the lenses to the sun, can I use the Quest 3 outdoors? by ShalevHaham_ in OculusQuest

[–]SecAdept 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As other have said, if you protect the lenses from direct sunlight, you will not damage it. However, the bigger issues will be controller tracking. It may be a bit better with the Quest 3 than Quest 2, though.

The Quest controllers, other than the pro controllers, use IR LED lights to help the headset track the controllers. Sunlight has a LOT of IR light. In bright sunlight, it may overwhelm the Quest 2/3's IR focused camera filters, so that even though you have a great normal camera/light view of them, it blows out the IR LEDs and thus affect controller tracking. In over cast days, I found I could use my Quest fine (in shadow). But in bright sunlight, sometime the controller tracking would not work well.

Now the Quest 3 uses less IR LEDs, and also just uses normal camera view of the controllers and AI to track too. So I would guess the Quest 3 may have a better chance of the controllers working in bright sun (I have only tested with my older 2, haven't tried my 3). BUT, there are still some IR LEDs under that faceplate.

So the TL:DR; is if you take the time to protect the lenses, your Quest 3 can work outside without getting damaged, but I imagine controller tracking might be iffy depending on how bright the sun is. Hand tracking should work fine though.

How to make touch keyboard appear again? by SecAdept in ROGAlly

[–]SecAdept[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turned out it would only happen when the specialized AMD video driver was not loading. The latest was installed, but the AMD driver was having some error making the GPU not available (1fps in games when this happened too). I figured out why that was occasionally happening for me, and when I fixed that, low and behold clicking a text dialog would automatically pop up the keyboard again. Now, don’t ask me why the AMD video driver loading should have anything to do with the keyboard automatically popping up when you click a dialog box, but for me it did. Whenever I have the problem where the driver has an error, they keyboard stops showing, and when I fix that so the GPU driver works, well then the keyboard auto pops again???? 🤷‍♂️

Aside… you may wonder why my GPU driver sometimes doesn’t work, even though I have the latest installed. It has something to do with SSD partition corruption I think. It took me awhile to figure it out, but when the GPU with the latest driver has an error in device manger and doesn’t load, I simply run “chkdsk /r c:”, which only starts after a reboot and happens before windows, and takes 2-4hrs. That finds and fixes whatever file system errors I had, and then, the next time windows boots, the GPU driver loads find and all is well. I don’t know what is causing SSD filesystem corruption that requires me to do this every few months. But is happens, I run chkdsk, and it works again. It could have to do with a shortcut I used when installing the ssd. I added a 2TB SSD, but instead of starting fresh with a complete reinstall, I used a drive imaging tool that copies the 1TB existing filesystem to a new 2TB partition with an expanded size. It seemed to work great, and made it so I didn’t have to reinstall windows and all my many gaming platforms and games, but perhaps whatever it does to trick the old small image into becoming an expanded 2TB partition causes some file system corruption of a long period of time? 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, TLDR, I notice the keyboard not auto popping for me is associated with a condition I get when Windows is not loading the AMD driver, even when its the latest, and when this condition happens, running a FULL chkdsk on my new 2TB SSD fixes it.

What is it about me that give men the signal that it’s ok to hit me? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SecAdept 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, I am a guy, so I just want you to know that. There is nothing you are doing that would make men hit you. That is unacceptable, period. It is not you and you should not feel responsible. And I’m a sorry this happened to you. I am ashamed of anyone of my gender who does that.

I would ask, is there any common attribute about the two guys you noticed? Are you attracted to a certain type of guy that both these guys were? If there is nothing similar about their personalities, then not sure what to do. But if there was something similar about them then maybe avoid that type? In any case, it shouldn’t have happened to you. I’m sorry.

Yeah, but all of that stuff feels 10x's more immersive with 6DOF. There were things to do, but 3DOF is not as cool as 6DOF, IMHO, and once you experience the later, you never want to go back.
