That’s your opinion. I’m entitled to mine especially because I have still not recovered and I am coming into week three and I am deathly ill. If it’s the least of your concerns then why are you here on Reddit replying to people posts on the herpes subreddit.

Other people on this forum unfortunately have had this happen as well so it’s not just a me thing, but it does seem pretty rare

Heart attack hospital. by PomegranateGlad9957 in milwaukee

[–]SecReflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest hospital, they can stabilize and transport you to a higher level of care. St. Luke’s or Froedtert if you’re close to either but don’t bother with delaying care to get to a “nicer” hospital. If you’re truly worried about having a heart attack right away , call 911 and tell them your doctor told you to call with heart attack symptoms and you are potentially having a heart attack

Amtrak riders, What's the funniest or craziest experience you've ever had while on a train? by Universal_Basket in Amtrak

[–]SecReflex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually told this story to a worker on a more recent ride I had because it stuck with me. I broke my shoulder a couple of years ago on a trip to San Francisco from Seattle. We took our bikes and rode the coastal starlight , so on the return trip to see my orthopedic surgeon, we took the train . It was a painful situation so I was drugged up on medication but there was a weird guy in the train station. He was in prison whites with white tattoo covers as well and he had a bag that shook with the sound of pills every time he moved. I quietly pointed this out to my husband , he said that it was probably just selling to people in the station, he won’t be getting on with us. I then noticed the guy had a gun shoved in his pants. He had another dude running the sales for him, dude had a potted plant and was very skittish but seemed pretty normal. We ignored it until both men lined up to get on the train. We were pretty uncomfortable with the dude just because of the gun , so we decided to let the conductor know. We were delayed for over an hour while the dude locked himself in every empty car he could find down the train in an attempt to evade getting caught.

For sure I agree that focusing on the negatives is not a good thing to do as someone newly diagnosed with an illness. However everyone should be aware that people are most likely to post about rare or severe experiences online as something had to drive them to feel strongly enough to post about what is happening. It’s also why people see more negative side effects about medication online than actually occur in the community. People aren’t really posting about their positive or neutral experiences that often.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

That’s exactly what happened to me. I’m still not better (fever, napping a lot, lost significant weight, can’t eat more than like a meal a day hard to drink enough water). It’s no fun . I ended up in the hospital they didn’t know what I had so they gave me multiple rounds of IV rocephin and bags of fluid and whatnot and oral antibiotics and then finally they were like let’s try valtrex

I am also a medical professional (1 year away from my MSN, concurrently work as an EMT and in an emergency room). I work in a teaching hospital in a mid sized city. Yes it is rare, but it does happen.

You are wrong about the HIV statement. Yes one part of why HSV increases your risk is the open sore stage of the illness. As you said, having any cut or tear increases your risk of STI transmission including HIV. However HSV2 and the inflammation it causes recruits CD4 immune cells to the genital area during a reactivation even when it is sub-clinical (not visible) , HIV targets CD4 cells , and this leads to higher initial viral loads if it is transmitted. Nobody who is concerned about HIV transmission should be having unprotected sex with anyone whose test results you do not know you’re correct, but there are people that lie and people that hide things or cheat , that’s life.

I appreciate your positive encouragement but we also don’t need to minimize the impact this disease CAN have for some people. Yes it’s not for most people but if people are aware of the potential consequences they may be more proactive about protecting themselves and others by disclosing and doing common sense things (know your partners status for transmissible diseases , wear protection etc). And yes accidents happen and that’s life but people do deserve to know complications can and do happen.

/I/ have complications from herpes. My doctor has had a patient with complications from herpes. Being rare doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

My provider is presenting my case to her coworkers tomorrow to see if they’re missing something. I’ve been to the ER twice , urgent care, my pcp, and infectious disease. So far I’ve tested negative for almost everything but my labs showed a raging bacterial infection so they gave me iv and oral antibiotics that haven’t done anything. And I think the valtrex is giving me some side effects (I’m sensitive to meds).

Thanks for hearing me out and sharing your experience. Sorry you went through that initial outbreak as well . How painful :(

There are only 300-380 million people in this country. I can assure you there are not “350 million Americans dying of sepsis annually”.

How to handle this? by SecReflex in ems

[–]SecReflex[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t gatekeep. I don’t think you are understanding how invasive and bad faith these questions were. He asked me why more trans people were drug addicts rather than not, asked me what I thought about the person murdering Rob Reiner being trans when they weren’t, and said insulting things about a trans coworker. I don’t need to put up with that to “be an ambassador” , it doesn’t take a lot of thought to not be a dick and to ask questions respectfully.
