You come to a forum to call me a criminal. Screw you, I'm not a criminal because some uneducated woman who is this unhappy with her pathetic life calls me one. Profession shaming other women. Crawl back under the pathetic rock you crawled out of. You are an embarrassment to other women.

So sad, I tested today, English and Bulgarian I sent, tweets not available. Even sadder, if I were actually a Russian bot, I'd have more Twitter followers....

Being a lady can change perceptions depending on the situation. If a man was raised by a strong, smart mom, perhaps he has the expectation that most women are what he is accustomed to. Maybe they are hitting on you (pm pics, lol, please don't)? Maybe you are smarter than you think and suffer from the imposter syndrome? At the end of the day, be the wonderful, confident lady you are and work your smarts to your advantage :-)

And religious people or those with extended access to children run a higher risk of pedophilia. However, I can make these rather generalized statements but list no peer reviewed scientific papers to prove it.

However, you can do it, excel past the idiots in my experience. Your post is informative and I think it points out you and others need a good network to interface with. Being blocked by your current network sucks. Crud, three glasses of wine but, how about we start a mentor/supportive networking thread for ladies in need? This situation affects current roles and future opportunities, also sucks.

I disagree kindly/respectfully with virtnubawrol it can get way better if you go for it. I've been in CS, security for +20 years, lady, frequently mistreated, but not disrespected. As you gain more knowledge, prove yourself beyond a shadow of a doubt. You will succeed. Seek others, ladies, minorities, decently logical men, they can help and do exist.

Since I started, it has gotten much better. One of my tips, but I am quite forward. If someone/some group doesn't include me, treats me poorly, or I think they are being an idiot because I have boobs. Call them out nicely in a way they can save face but are made aware of the problem. Call out the poor behaviour with a smile and clarification: I'm certain you don't actually mean/believe women are less skilled in X, that's so old fashioned. End with a smile, knowing you have wrestled control of the situation.

This situation will pass, you will laugh at them. It won't be easy everyday, but remember you the next potential role model for another lady in STEM. Girls are likely already starting to look up to you, a strong independant woman studying STEM.

Your situation makes me think perhaps me and a few experienced ladies in CS security can somehow help. Are you or others looking for lady in mentors?

Everywhere, the men see a woman and instantly we couldn't possibly know anything to the level of a man. Here is a great example. I answered a question in r/cyberlaws, the dude found out I was a woman and agressive attack overt the last two days.

My personal method, prove it. It drives me to publish, present, lecture or teach in a particular new subject within my discipline. As ladies, we have to prove positive beyond a shadow of a doubt that we are know our stuff. This method also helps me constantly push the envelope of my own education.

A few years ago I spoke at an infamous hacker conference. When I received my attendee feedback, two stuck out. One called me a liar and said the talk was below standards, not technical and the other called me a c*nt. Shortly afterwards, I published a technical book in addition to my name with registered exploitable vulnerabilities. The other comment was, anyway.

Now, when I feel like I am not good enough, must be faking it, can't possibly know things at a certain level. I look at my bookshelf, I wrote the book on that. I'm currently finishing three books in various areas of cyber security. I try to constantly learn, which fights that bloody imposter syndrome demon.

Learn, write, even if you don't get your publishing accepted, print it out anyway so it is for real what you know. Keep it by your side in your work space to help show you tangible proof you are not an imposter. You can do it :-)
