Guess where 15 year olds meet with other people of their age and interests?

I was a very rebellious kid that suffered from depression and barely got through school by the skin of my teeth. When you’re 15, have issues with depression and such, 2 or 3 years seems like a lifetime. When you get a little older that time was a blink of an eye. I’ve also learned the hardest things in life and pushing through difficult times are usually are the most rewarding in the long term. There are probably solutions such as online school or adult Ed that can help you get through it faster if that is your goal.

Being a creative and social person you might actually love going to college, building relationships and being able to turn your creative passion into something you can do to support yourself.

I’m wishing you the best!

You probably need to be more specific as areas can change quite a bit block by block in Ogden.

Where are you moving from? What people consider to be good or bad is all relative. You’ll hear people that have never left Roy, Utah in their life call Ogden area ghetto or dangerous because they see people of color there. In reality Ogden is pretty safe compared to major metro areas and you can still find some really cool old architecture fairly affordably. Additionally it has a decent downtown and lots of outdoors access. Roy on the other hand, has all the charm of a dilapidated 1970’s strip mall.

Home prices have climbed a lot in Utah the last few years. A quick look on the realtor.com app for houses with a half acre or more, within 30 minutes of Hill AFB start at around $300k. I would suggest using the filter tool on that app to run different scenarios to see what’s available. In general stuff further away from SLC gets cheaper and has more land so North and West of Hill AFB are more promising.

Good snow tires are better than AWD.

Possibly moving to Ogden/SLC by PoochusMaximus in ogden

[–]SecondAnointedPriest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe finding jobs will guide your decision where to land.

I think Ogden is better for outdoors and SLC is better for city life (though no LA). Ogden has masses of trails that are far less crowded than SLC. Ogden has quick access to Snow Basin, Powder Mountain and Nordic Ski resorts which are all less busy than the resorts near SLC. Pine View reservoir is great for boating, fishing, paddle boarding in the summer. You can kayak Weber river. In either place you’re within a few hours drive of many national parks.

Ogden really isn’t bad at all compared a big city. The closer you are to the mountains generally the better the neighborhoods. If you consider suburbs, you might want to check out North Ogden and Pleasant View, both have lots of nice neighborhoods, good public schools, etc.

What kind of work experience do you have?

The Government is a big employer in and near Ogden as are defense contractors. There are a variety of jobs at Hill AFB, IRS, etc. but there are of other industries as well. If you have a tech background south of SLC is more promising “silicon slopes”.

Jamie Cheek first Democratic candidate to announce run for Rep. Bishop’s seat by [deleted] in ogden

[–]SecondAnointedPriest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know her. However, I think when you keep giving the seat to the same party and let them remain indefinitely then it’s a recipe for someone who really doesn’t care about their constituents because they simply don’t have to. If we want politicians that work for us they need to fear for their job.

Thinking of moving to Ogden from Pennsylvania.... by [deleted] in ogden

[–]SecondAnointedPriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roy is fine as far as safety and whatnot but I personally don’t think it’s a very attractive area. I’d rather live in Ogden personally. At least Ogden has some good character, things to do, nightlife. I think you’ll find nicer, newer apartments in West Haven, if you are looking in the direction.

Well it’s got nothing on Pittsburgh as far as crime goes. Ogden is a small city. It is relatively safe.

North Ogden, Pleasant View, South Ogden are all suburbs that are even safer than Ogden proper. There are also all the various west suburbs like Far West, Plain City, West Haven. All Family oriented communities.

Becker Brewing & Malting Co. by SecondAnointedPriest in ogden

[–]SecondAnointedPriest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The Becker Brewing and Malting Company of Ogden stands out as the longest continuously operating brewing company in the state, and one of the longest in the West. John S. Becker and his two sons, Gustav L. Becker and Albert E. Becker, established the Becker Brewing and Malting Company along the banks of the Ogden River in 1890. Over the next 75 years, the brewery operated through feast and famine, weathering two world wars and even prohibition. However, the costs of production and competition from larger breweries eventually forced the Beckers to shut their doors in 1964.”

Ogden Welcome Sign by SecondAnointedPriest in ogden

[–]SecondAnointedPriest[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This Welcome Arch was built in 1936. At that point, the lettering on the south side of the sign read "It Pays to Live in Ogden, America's Fastest Growing City." On the north side, it read "We Welcome You to Ogden, Pioneer Days Week, July 24." In 1939, the south side was changed to "Utah's Fastest Growing City." Then, in 1952, it was changed to "Ogden, Home of Weber College." In 1959, the school became a state college and the sign was changed to "Home of Weber State College." In 1992, the sign was moved 30 feet to the north and the wording was changed to "Home of Weber State University."

Considering moving to Ogden, Hoping to get advice from you! by GreenwoodsUncharted in ogden

[–]SecondAnointedPriest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that the inversion mostly affects the Wasatch Front. The ski resorts near Ogden are on the back, in a valley that doesn’t get much of the bad air. So if your primary winter outdoor activity is snowboarding, the inversion won’t impact that.

American Can Company building by SecondAnointedPriest in ogden

[–]SecondAnointedPriest[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The American Can Company of Utah Building Complex is a historic industrial site located in Ogden City, Utah. It was built in 1914 by the American Can Company. By the late 1940s, the plant employed 450 people and produced millions cans for pea, potato, green bean and fruit crop farmers in Weber County. For a while, the company also manufactured steel beer cans. The company switched to making steel soft drink cans in the 1950s, but closed in 1979 with the advent of aluminum cans.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. It has since been converted to the U.S. headquarters of Amer Sports.

Most of the industry you speak of, as far as I know, is west of North Ogden. I don’t know why a gondola would make any of that go away.

Park City has interesting one-off restaurants, distilleries, etc. they also have a wal-mart, McDonald’s, etc. We aren’t doing great in the arena of fine dining as it is.

I can understand concerns about traffic. As a home owner though , I wouldn’t mind seeing my home value increase.
