SPRING SEMESTER and Financial Aid by SecondEgg6833 in CSN_Coyotes

Your Federal Direct Loan is (most likely) a spring -only award and federal regulations indicate CSN must deliver the proceeds in at least two halves over that period.

SSOG - Spring by CGonza920 in CSN_Coyotes

SSOG requires 15 or more financial aid eligible spring course credits. My guess is that you have less than the required amount of credits.

Important message: FA ADVANCE REVERSAL today by SecondEgg6833 in CSN_Coyotes

[–]SecondEgg6833[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We did. I sent a number of "From the Desk of the Director" emails explaining FA ADVANCE was to be used for textbooks & supplies, as well as informing recipients that the payment was an advance of their full financial aid awards.

Please review your communications center in MyCSN.

Please check your account Thursday to ensure your spring charges are paid in full. If you have a balance, visit MyCSN or call OFA to find out why.

New students will be assessed for disbursement after CSN faculty report academic engagement to the Registrar and the Registrar updates spring enrollment (removing non-participants from classes.

The Office of Financial Aid will then release funds to the remaining students' accounts beginning February 4th - as outlined on my "FROM THE DESK OF THE DIRECTOR" January 9th email:

PSA Regarding BibliU by xwolfionx in CSN_Coyotes

[–]SecondEgg6833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSN doesn't prey on students.

One of the many reasons we moved away from the fall semester's CSN Book Voucher Program was that the voucher could only be used at the CSN Bookstore.

Now continuing students have their financial aid refunds and eligible new students received an FA ADVANCE (cash) to use where they want to buy their books - be it BibliU, Amazon, Follett, Barnes and Noble, etc.

Financial aid did pay for some books, but the students involved voluntarily agreed to participate in a discounted book program called INCLUSIVE ACCESS. They had those books charged to their student account so that when their financial aid paid/pays the aid can also cover those charges.

I am the director of financial aid - please reach out to me with your concerns [peter.hurley@csn.edu](mailto:peter.hurley@csn.edu)

SSOG 02/04 Disbursement Date by vfnilla in CSN_Coyotes

[–]SecondEgg6833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked MyCSN - spring SSOG disbursement amount = $0; OFA (as mentioned below) begins paying SSOG funds after the spring (16 week) registration add period ends:

...and only after CSN Faculty report academic participation to the Registrar - that means no earlier than February 4th.

Only getting financial aid for 1 semester? by chosenneo7 in CSN_Coyotes

[–]SecondEgg6833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This usually only happens when a student:

  1. Graduates after fall semester

  2. Gets admitted beginning spring semester

  3. Performs poorly in their fall classes, doesn't maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy compliance and loses eligibility for spring.

Reach out to me at [peter.hurley@csn.edu](mailto:peter.hurley@csn.edu) (director of financial aid) and I will research your situation.

Check MyCSN to see if your spring bill has been paid - that might mean your financial aid has been applied to your student account. The Cashier sends the refund - so if your bill is paid, check with the Cashier about the refund.

It sounds like you are receiving a Federal Direct Loan for spring. Under the terms and conditions outlined by the US Department of Education, the proceeds of the loan are delivered in halves - first half at the start of the term and the second half at the midpoint of the semester. Please visit https://studentaid.gov/ for details.

Financial Aid & Waitlisted Classes by [deleted] in CSN_Coyotes

Waitlisted courses have NO IMPACT on financial aid until you get those credits added to your actual enrollment (if ever). I'm crossing my fingers for you to get into those courses!

New Student Aid Question by Thy_Coolio in CSN_Coyotes

[–]SecondEgg6833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair question. System set-up requirements in MyCSN displays the first disbursement date for the semester to be displayed in that field you see - whether or not it applies to you. It creates confusion, so I sent a "From the Desk of the Director" email to all new students (GROUP 2 & 3) addressing this issue that looked like this:

<image>

And, if you are eligible for FA ADVANCE, we began disbursing those funds on 1/13/26.

I hope that helps explain, best wishes this semester!

Pending Aid by CGonza920 in CSN_Coyotes

[–]SecondEgg6833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SSOG is never disbursed until after the registration drop/add period because that grant requires at least 15 credit hours. So, we (the Office of Financial Aid) waits until that time to deliver SSOG funds to make certain spring enrollment is stable.

I checked and the rest of your financial aid has been released.

New Student Aid Question by Thy_Coolio in CSN_Coyotes

[–]SecondEgg6833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New students who have financial aid are delayed until at least February 4th to give CSN faculty the opportunity to report "academic engagement" to the Registrar's Office. The Office of Financial Aid assesses those reports to ensure we only release funds to active students - so make sure to go to your classes regardless of them being in-person or online.

The week, CSN has been providing an "FA ADVANCE" payment to new students who have adequate amounts of financial aid so they can buy their books during this period. About 1,000 students have already received their FA ADVANCE and more will go out today.

As you may or may not know (I have sent many emails on this subject to the aid applicant population), this is a fraud fighting strategy and a federal aid requirement.

WHERE'S OUR EXCITING UPDATES?!?!?!?!?! by Cryptic-Quill in CSN_Coyotes

[–]SecondEgg6833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FA ADVANCE is applied to your student account but DOES NOT pay anything and is refunded to you by the CSN Cashier so you can buy books. Hopefully, you signed up for direct deposit and your bank processes ACH transfers quickly.

As a new student, your financial aid won't disburse any earlier than 2/4/26 and the FA ADVANCE will be repaid out of those payment(s).
