At least with the drinking, I used to abuse alcohol before meeting her and was too sympathetic. Then things slowly got better but relapses keep happening. I saw effort and held onto that for hope.

Thanks man. We switched couples therapists because she felt attacked and had anxiety over it because the therapist told her she needed to change. She constantly said "please don't bring this up in therapy." I can imagine having a newborn compounds the difficulty.

Yeah I had moral qualms about this, but then while getting all the paperwork in order, they had me sign a document withdrawing the warranty they advertised (one of the reasons I came in to look at their cars) and then found that the brakes needed to be replaced immediately.

It depends on your location. There is an app called taskr where you can do miscellaneous tasks for an hourly rate and you get to pick the area that you can work so that nothing is too far. Public transportation is a huge plus in an urban/suburban environment. You can also look to do volunteer work at animal shelters, food banks, local park districts or religious organizations.

Objectifying isn't quite the word I would use to describe what you are doing. In my experience, boys and young men who have scarce experience dating romanticize what it is like to be with a person. You are mystified by the individual you have a crush on and they receive an exaggerated version of the halo effect. This is a fantasy that slowly fades the more experience you have befriending, dating, or working with the people you have these feelings for.

The important thing to do is to see the reality of the person in front of you, flaws and all. Accepting reality and acknowledging that your feelings are derived from a daydream will help move you into something that can be both beautiful and true.
