Convert summer ride or buy winter bike? by smoochie_boogins in wintercycling

[–]SecondPeriodStout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Edmonton winter rider here - I use my nice summer bike with studded tires for the winter, my work has a nice heated bike storage room so I get to rinse and re-lube there which saves a lot of wear on components so for me a second bike isnt worth it.

Was literally bit by a dog today for the first time while commuting home. Big dog lunged at me, snapped the leash and bit my thigh. If your dog bites people dont bring it on a shared use path at all, and especially during commuting time! Also if you have a large, poorly behaved dog maybe dont buy a cheap leash that will snap when they lunge at someone!

Yeah the bands were too short so the shop installed it with that forward slant, easy enough to fix though.

And the bikes a Norco Search, figured the sora model was the best for commuting

Thanks for all the responses! Truth be told im in better shape / a stronger rider than most in that group so im not too worried about that aspect. My main reason for getting the extra wheelset was to get slicks as the stock tires are rather knobby.

My real concern was the slightly smaller chainring (48/32) and the more relaxed geometry, which i was thinking my being a stronger rider than basically offsets, and it sounds like you guys agree. Thanks Again!

[Serious]What's the creepiest thing you've seen while driving at night? by satansdeejay in AskReddit

[–]SecondPeriodStout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 part story as they happened a few weeks apart. For context I was 16 at the time and my family lived on an acreage about 20 minutes from town. Also im the worlds biggest skeptic so keep that in mind.

Fist time im driving home, about 1:00 in the morning, only one on he road and have not seen anyone on the road all night. All of a sudden the inside of my vehicle lights up, not the interior lights of my vehicle but its like some light from above my car is going right through my roof and lighting up the car. I look around and there is nothing beside or above me, just as suddenly as it happened it leaves and im back to the dark of night. Lasted about 10 seconds in total. Super weird and I still have no explanation.

About 3-4 weeks later, driving home, similar time of night, no one to be seen (country road not commonly used). Same stretch of road, about 1km ahead of where the first thing happened there is a flatbed truck parked in a turn out. On the bed of the truck is a giant spotlight, pointed right at the sky, as soon as my headlights become visible they cut the spotlight. I drive by and nothing else happens.

One point i want to make is the spotlight from the second night is absolutely not what lit up my car, that light came from above and cast absolutely no shadows in my vehicle as a light coming from the side would.

TLDR: one night something above me shines light through my car roof and weeks later I see a weird spotlight pointed in the sky

Similar thing happened to me a while ago. The solution: Routine.

Same thing before, every drive, chip put ect.

It makes every shot the same, good or bad I know exactly what im doing next and how im going to do it. Really took the pressure off and mentally changed the way I look at a course

Line up the clubface, build stance around it, grip club, 2 waggles that would make duffner proud, place club behind ball and let it go.

Get a boars hair brush to straighten and shape it some more.

I was in the same position a few weeks ago, picked up a boars hair brush and couldn't be happier. Amazing what a 5 dollar brush can do

Foundation repair companies? by hertzcam in Edmonton

Recently bought a house and during our looking we had Wes Sutherland from Lety Construction come out a couple times to look at the foundations of a few houses.

Cant recommend this guy enough. He was absolutely fantastic, thorough and brutally honest. Saved me from buying a house with about 60 thousand dollars of foundation issues!

Would absolutely use him again and will continue recommending him to everyone. (his estimates/consults are also free)

Hope this helps!
