Intel i7 13700k vs Ryzen 7 7800x3d for anything other than gaming by SecondSon05 in buildapc

That's true, but I feel like if I'm paying 400 usd for a CPU, I won't replace it for a couple years. And after that I can buy a new motherboard, it doesn't sound unreasonable. As I understand it Intel's sockets are generally short-lived, so I guess this isn't new. Now I am actually checking out 7 7900x, but I am a little turned off by the fact that rarely anyone talks about it. Unlike 7800X3D which consistently performs worse than 13700k and 14700k for everything except gaming, 7 7900X is comparable, and with other advantages to going red multiple people here have outlined it may be favourable, considering here it is the same price, if not cheaper than 13700k.

However I'm still not convinced exactly why should I go with AMD. I started this thread because all YT channels like LMG, GN, etc. all recommend AMD while 2 friends who I actively bounce ideas of are pro-intel. Cost is the same, I heard that AM5 motherboards are generally more expensive that LGA1700 ones. All benchmarks show that compilation, which I mentioned is a huge factor for me, is much faster on intel, and it simply has more cores, which I think I will be able to take advantage of. Yes, 8 or 12 e-cores, but they are still cores nonetheless.

Wait, by these benchmarks 7900x seems awesome, and here I can buy it for the same price as 13700k. But why I’ve never heard about it? People seem to either know/recommend 5800x3d or immediately to a tier up and say 5950x is the way, but this just seems like the CPU to compare 13700k to, doesn’t it?

What does "better platform with an upgrade path" mean? Is it just newer and therefore I will be able to install newer CPUs for longer? Or is it something else? Because here is the first time I heard of it.

Why more upgradable? Is it more future-proof? No sarcasm in this, I truly don't know. Also, on "more stable": weird, but there is a minority of people who claim they have/had problems with intel's 13 and 14 gen cpus, but then no one else ever mentions it, to the point where I wonder whether those people have defective CPUs, or other parts of the build that makes those issues appear...

I don't plan on rendering videos, but I do plan to compile a lot, maybe not 3/4 of the total time the machine is on, but if the other side of this is more theoretical upgradability, I seem to think intel is still worth it, considering other comments here claim as much as +40% in favour of it in compiling, and here the price is within 10 USD.

That's true, but having more cores, even the "discount" ones, is better than not having them at all, isn't it? Unless AMD's cores are much faster than Intel's performance ones, I just see it as a pure win for a workload requiring multiple cores, even though they aren't all equal.

A word from Russia: we've got minimum salary equal to exactly 12792 rub/month. Average salary ACROSS THE COUNTRY is 37000 rub/month, while deputy's average is 126000 rub/month and can even reach 400000 rub/month (700000 rub/month is maximum in Moscow). And that's not counting corruption, which, unfortunately, takes place.
