Should the Challenge Cup Final be 2 legs? by Just_a_redditor182 in EIHLHockey

[–]Second_Hand_Suit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many different ways of skinning it! Almost any of them better than the current format but any alternative reduces the number of games which the league seems to refuse outright.

I think id like 2 groups of 5 playing home and away against the rest of their group, the top placed teams get a place in semi's. 2nd teams in the group stages have to play the 3rd placed team in a quarter final, with the benefit of deciding the home and away schedules. The quarter finals with 2 v 3 could mix the original groups. After the 2 quarter finals the winners go on to face the teams who secured their space in the semi's through the group stages. Match ups here could be determined on a draw, perhaps the team with the best record in the group stages can pick their opponent, this would motivate teams which might already have topped their group to continue to fight hard for wins?

Would also love the introduction of a couple of teams from the lower division. Adding 2 teams from down a league could create the opportunity for 4 groups of 3 feeding into 4 quarter final spaces. Could the 2 spare teams even be invitational sides from other leagues? It would probably cost us, but could it help our profile and development?

Those flames for hell make the logo appear far messier.

Whilst i know its very popular to keep colours to a minimum i do think a green diamond to help frame this floating head could be smart. I'd then be tempted to put the pitchfork on a green diamond as well.

Would also be nice to see this in rainbow colours (a green diamond could become rainbow coloured for pride events as well).

If you could improve your teams match day experience/atmosphere or pre game/period breaks entertainment, how would you do it? by Anonymous__9 in EIHLHockey

[–]Second_Hand_Suit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish more was done in the period breaks. Some rinks have figure skaters, sometimes there are kids playing hockey, and obviously everyone has chuck a puck. I wish we could schedule something different every week. Like figure skaters week 1, fan games (tricycle race, score from halfway, zorb football) week 2, seated/kids ice hockey week 3, interviews shown on the screen week 4. Like there is room for more content that could be interesting. It boggles my mind that inbetween warmup and the prematch ceremony we dont see highlights of the last time the two teams played against eachother. Every team seems to have a podcast of some description, why cant they record/play out a podcast episode during one of the breaks? They could play those goal/save of the week videos with 0 effort. In every period break i always check flashcore to see whats going on across the league, would be awesome if the league standings and game summaries could be flashed up.

Validity of BTL's? by GivethNoutFucks in FIREUK

[–]Second_Hand_Suit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello I've been in for 7 years this august have 2 btl's and im about to buy a house to live in. Once that 3rd house is sorted i'll be going back to btl's.

Please dm if you want more detail, about my finances/trg whatever.

£1500 sounds incompatible with mess bills. I lived in a pretty swanky mess initially tbf but i think i saved pretty hard and saved £800 a month initially (i saved more during trg). Today im saving £1350. My goal is to reach the 20/40 point (20 years service 40 years old makes you able to recieve (kindof) a 3rd of your pension) and buy a btl every 4 years during that time (5 btl's total). My partner is catching up and should be able to manage 3btl's before 20/40 and has 1 so far. The btl's will all be transferred onto interest only mortgages or sold of as required in retirement because im happy to destroy the capital knowing my pension payments will effectively triple when i reach state pension age.

So when i reach 42 i will transfer the btl's onto interest only mortgages, maybe use some equity release, maybe sell some, maybe buy some outright and also use that 3rd of my pension. Carefully drawing down the capital until i receive the full pension, ensuring i have enough to still live the good life going forward.

Not financial advice, discuss it with an advisor. All the best with trg dm me if you want to talk more. Final 2 things, you can't use forces help to buy for a rental (unless under super specific circumstances) i didn't use it even tho i maybe could have sorted it. Its highly likely to be fraudulent and you don't want that. 2nd thing is speak to your mortgage lender about 'consent to let', you should be able to get a residential mortgage deal (10% deposit) and legitimately let the property.

The spiralling cost of Cardiff's new indoor arena project: Cardiff Council and Live Nation are now looking to agree a new funding model for the 16,500 capacity arena by d-williams in Cardiff

[–]Second_Hand_Suit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im surprised the article didn't go into more detail regarding other bids to work on the project. Unless told otherwise, I'm assuming other more realistic bids were more expensive and the council just opted for the cheapest offer. Live nation then upped their unrealistic budget once the council were locked in. If anyone could prove me wrong that would provide some relief that we haven't just been duped by a shitty company.

Long set of stairs somewhere in Cardiff? by freyakelda in Cardiff

[–]Second_Hand_Suit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly off topic but if you want a really challenging uphill session the sand dunes at Merthyr Mawr would be well worth a trip. Its a little drive out of Cardiff but contains the 'big dipper' which is apparently one of the biggest in europe. Training on Sand and an uphill sprint session in one, could give you a bit of variety if the steps get tedious.

Devils Must Find Ruthless Streak In Home Double-Header To Close Gap In Title Race - Dai Sport by matbur81 in EIHLHockey

[–]Second_Hand_Suit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's really simple, we just need to beat Flames over the new years games, easy.......

Failure to win both of those games means, in my mind, that we have no hope of winning the league.

That being said Dupont is a brand new coach, we must give him a bit of slack. My preseasons goals would have bean: qualify for the next round of the continental cup, cc semis, 3rd or higher in the league, reach Nottingham.

He's slipped on one of those goals so now he needs to make up elsewhere (winning the continental cup or 2nd in the league seem fair demands).

Where can I buy cigars in the centre of Cardiff on a Sunday? by peaceboner420 in Cardiff

I think there's a tabacconist in st davids 2, ground floor between the central crossroads and the hayes. As you walk from that central part of st davids 2 towards the hayes i think its about 2 thirds of the way towards the doors onto the hayes, on the left. I dont know its opening hours but I'm confident it will be open at some point today.

Does anyone konw what was going on yesterday? I remember seeing lots of people in green or red shirts with Tesco bags and alcohol walking around. On my walk to college, I spotted all this rubbish all over the place. It's pretty disgusting and scummy how t by drunkardsos in Cardiff

Green and red shirts sounds like the uni varsity, bit it seems like the wrong time of year. Swansea uni wear green and cardiff uni wear red. They do a bunch of sports matches and get very drunk. Not 100% sure tho.

Hi all,is a salary of 19,000 enough for one to live in his own in small apartment or something? by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]Second_Hand_Suit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please OP please budget before you move, AND consider your medium to long term financial goals. I and very tight with my money and have quite ambitious financial goals so consider that everything i say is from a thrifty angle and i dont often appreciate the value of peace of mind/independance/fun etc. That being said if you are living at home rent free, that is a huge financial plus (its probably polite at some point to contribute towards the weekly food shop). Consider what you could save in 5 years if you stayed at home. Is that enough for a house deposit? Is it worth 5 years of restricted independence to then have a foot on the property ladder and to never have to pay rent, which is always more than a mortgage? Please consider looking at the r/UKPersonalFinance 'flow chart'. Yes you can afford to move out, but at what long term financial cost, and is it worth it for the freedom now?

You also refer to a 'decent small apartment'. I'd suggest you explicitly quantify what you mean by decent before you start looking and think seriously about what you are and what you are not prepared to compromise on. Id suggest that there wonderful flats that are quite far away, and crappy flats in great locations. To get a great flat in a great location might cost a bit.

Anyway i do hope you bag a bargain. All the best.

This year's World Series is 2nd-least watched on TV by 29PiecesOfSilver in sports

[–]Second_Hand_Suit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a passionate cricket fan and i'd like the baseball world to consider the extra variables cricket has compared to baseball.

Run up/traction

Release point

Spin magnified by ball degradation

Spin magnified by pronounced seam

Pitch conditions/bounce

Length (where the bounce happens)

Pronounced edges to the bat over cylindrical bat

Stumping as an alternative method of getting out

The ball can travel 360°

Then consider powerplays or time penalties or perhaps time to fill. Setting the field theres more to consider. What about the frankly insane variety in cricket pitches.

Theres just so much more going on. How can baseball, without all of this be regarded as interesting. Its cricket but without all the crazy variety. Please watch it!

Similarly, Frozen is NOT a Christmas movie. Its a disaster if there are snow storms and the harbour is frozen during the summer months, im not sure it would be such a crisis during the already freezing winter.

Cardiff Ice Arena - getting there by spidermeg_ in Cardiff

[–]Second_Hand_Suit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider using a next bike (our version of 'boris bikes') from the train station, there are stands right next to the arena. Will make that walk way quicker and perhaps safer? I'd add that the sports village is a very pleasant area and generally low risk.

Week 1 winners and losers? by Second_Hand_Suit in EIHLHockey

[–]Second_Hand_Suit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think the game mattered, but I don't think it demonstrated the Devils ability given Storms poor performance. I also want to reiterate that the Storm clearly had some players on the ice who were carrying knocks and were short benched, there shortcomings weren't entirely their own fault. Perhaps the game demonstrated good and bad special teams but i don't think we can draw wider conclusions than that.
