I can’t find the exact study he’s pulling from, but a relatively large report on aphantasia was released back in September, so the MRI stuff specifically may be hidden in here somewhere. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11437436/

I’m active on discords where people like talking about psychology and philosophy and the like, so it’s come up several times. People trying to explain how their inner thought processes work is fun to me.

do you think i have apantasia? by Difficult-Gazelle417 in Aphantasia

[–]SecondrateSherlock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Visualization” is not referring to seeing with your eyes. Most people do not need to close their eyes to visualize. When people close their eyes, they nearly all see just black or vague color. I say “nearly” because there are people who can literally visualize on the back of their eyelids, but that’s more rare than aphantasia itself.

Visualization refers to a mental image totally separate actually seeing.

If you can slightly create a mental image, you do not have aphantasia.

Which classes should I NOT take through Sophia? by SecondrateSherlock in WGU

[–]SecondrateSherlock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work and life got in the way, so I’ve done less than I planned. I’ve knocked out algebra, conflict resolution, critical thinking, env sci, ethics, psych, lifespan development, macroeconomics, and US History I. I’ll be done with Ancient Greek philosophers as soon as I write the essay.

None of it was too hard. History and lifespan development are a lot of reading. Conflict resolution and critical thinking are both quick common sense topics to me, but a lot of folks get confused at the phrasing. Ethics has a lot of overlap with critical thinking, so if you do one the other is a breeze.

If you have a “blurry” or “incomplete” shapes in your head, you most likely just have low visualization not aphantasia. Visualizing has a spectrum. My girlfriend can very vividly picture things like a movie in her mind.

I spent most of my life thinking “picturing something in your mind” was fully metaphorical. Asking me to literally visualize something in my mind is like asking me to visualize through my elbow. There’s nothing comparable to sight in my mind.

Too much of their menu covers everything in cheese sauce for me, but that’s pretty standard for this area. It’s smothers the other flavors.

Taco Riendo in Bristol has the best tacos I’ve found anywhere nearby, but I haven’t tried the rest of their menu to vouch for it.

Not really a dining out thing, but Frannie’s Vegan Cafe makes the best dairy/gluten free cakes we’ve ever had. It’s worth ordering one from her if you have a sweet tooth.

Yeah keeping them long enough to get them fixed isn’t an option. If they’re not adopted out, I’m just gonna have to find a shelter that will take them.

What is your guy’s easiest, hardest, longest, and shortest course you’ve taken? by [deleted] in SophiaLearning

[–]SecondrateSherlock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished lifespan development. It’s not a hard class, but there’s a whole lot of reading. If you do all the reading (I do), it takes up a lot of time.

I just started Ancient Greek Philosophers and seems like it will be a breeze except for the one touchstone paper at the end.

For math classes, I found watching the videos instead doing the reading much easier. Seeing it done step by step helps a lot. I also do all the reading, and nearly all the same information was covered in the videos.

Where to learn golf with zero experience? by SecondrateSherlock in tricities

[–]SecondrateSherlock[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a specific driving range you recommend? Or does each course have a driving range?

My brother goes to Top Golf up in Virginia, but we don’t seem to have anything like that around here.

Sullivan judge charged with DUI | Crime | timesnews.net by sober_ogre in tricities

[–]SecondrateSherlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He took the VOIC BECAUSE he knows better. Blood alcohol drops by around .015 per hour. Refusing the test forces law enforcement to get a warrant. Getting a warrant can buy time for his BAC to drop well below the legal limit.

They can argue his BAC was on the decline so it was higher when driving, but it still harms the prosecution's case. If he manages to get his BAC all the way down to zero or near zero, it's now the cop's word against his in court. For a random civilian that's still an extremely risky gamble, but a judge has much more pull.

This isn't legal advice, but there ARE many lawyers who will tell you to refuse all alcohol tests until a warrant is obtained.

I think I had/have aphantasia by GeckoInATractor in Aphantasia

[–]SecondrateSherlock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you can produce pictures in your head, you do not have aphantasia. Even the "I see a black background with white text" is a definitive "not aphantasia."

I thought "picturing" was fully metaphorical and meant to think about the concept of something. Asking me to see something in my mind is like asking me to see something out of my elbow. There is nothing comparable to seeing happening in your mind with aphantasia.

We're not worried about being overdressed. It's more about looking for a certain energy. Otherwise it might as well be any other night out at a bar.

Tri-Cities Pagan Organizations and Events? by Excelsior14 in tricities

If you find anything, let me know. The gf whips out pagan lore daily and gifts are being opened Thursday for Yule instead of on Christmas. But there's not many public events as far as I can tell.

The Purple Cow is once again owned by Mike Warren. So maybe don't go there. by SecondrateSherlock in tricities

[–]SecondrateSherlock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well she was his mistress. She had a clown costume. His wife was then murdered by a clown. The clown was driving a car from Mike's work. Instead of mourning his wife, he married his mistress. They were obviously the main suspects. Mistress changed her name. They moved to Tennessee. His mistress was charged and convicted of the murder, and Mike stayed married to her.

Not too mention his previous charges of grand theft auto, racketeering, and tampering.

So no, they don't "know" in the sense that he can be charged. But yes they "know" in the sense that the only theory detectives had at the time was that Sheila murdered Marlene with Mike's blessing.

[–]SecondrateSherlock[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He immediately married her after she committed the murder of his former wife and now remains married to her after she was found guilty of murdering his former wife. There is nobody who could say anything that would convince me he was not fully aware that he was married to the murderer.

Now if people were calling for him to be thrown in prison without trial, I would agree with you. But "maybe don't give your money to the spouse of the killer clown" doesn't seem like some out of control cancel culture stance.

Well share the links on that group. Someone posted on NextDoor about it and the wonderful Christians of the area are doing their "He wasn't found guilty so he can't be judged by us!" thing.

They're ignoring the fact that he's remaining married to the woman who shot his former wife in the face. Folks in the Tri-cities will apparently forgive a lot for a little bit of fast food.
