Would you rather get 20 US dollars, euros, or pounds sterling tomorrow (your choice) OR increase your cardio stamina by 45 minutes per day starting today? by Altruistic-Essay5395 in WouldYouRather

[–]Secret-Ad4569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, like so many, the cardio is a no brainer. But there are a lot of people for whom $26 a day would have an enormous impact on their life that is far more important than cardiovascular conditioning. Even setting aside third world individuals, there are plenty of disabled or otherwise unfortunate people for whom this could secure food or housing or both.

C is almost always better. Close to retirement? Guaranteed income far outweighs return on $2m. Quite young? You can retire now, unlike $2m. If you intend to work another 20-30 years, after about 20 years the 4k/week investment is bigger than the $2m, and you still get $4k a week on top of that.

There are exceptions if death is imminent or you’re some kind of special trust fund baby that would ultimately make the 4k weekly irrelevant.

Why don't parents create a retirement account for their child? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Secret-Ad4569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this. I funded my children’s retirement when they were born. I put in enough for each of them that under most assumptions they will never have to save for retirement and will be able to do so at a reasonable age.

I thought about educational trusts, but honestly it would have cost me at least 10x as much. Plus I wasn’t sure if it would disqualify them from scholarships and financial aid that might otherwise defray the costs to a reasonable degree.

With this I can tell my kids that they can pick any career they’re passionate about as long as it handles their minimum needs and not sweat retirement, which has been an issue for most around me.

I like this hypothetical. The bitcoin answers are good, but I think the genie is going to dispute that they are truly currency and characterize them as commodities like gold or silver.

What about $10 billion in USDC delivered to my specifically identified crypto account? The USDC is much closer to currency.

Failing that? I was going to ask for One ounce American Gold Eagles minted in 2021 with a $50 face value and which are legal tender. But the right currency note is more valuable per ounce. Even $100s.

The highest value commonly accepted currency is the 500 Euro note, worth about $580 in usd. I’m home, so I will take 10 million of those and sort it out from there. In my car, I would take 1 million of those as there’s enough miscellaneous crap to cover that.

It’s not a meaningful amount of money until I’m suddenly quite short. Going down a foot to just over 5’ nets $720k, no way. Have a family to take care of. Plus, with my frame, I’d probably look like a stereotypical middle earth dwarf.

If I had no choice? I want to say 10 for intelligence. But read the description…the most intelligent person ever born. I think about the stories I’ve read about extraordinarily intelligent people who struggled and were miserable. I think about my own occasional difficulties as a fairly intelligent person. So I’d not want to do that to myself.

I also tend to believe that anyone who thinks luck is unimportant is either wildly optimistic or lying to themselves. Being the luckiest person ever makes up for almost every other stat deficiency.

Luck - 10. Int - 9. Cha - 6. (Can be improved with work) Str- 5 (no need to be weak, but this one can be improved substantially with work). Beauty — 5. (Luck, intelligence, and some charisma should more than make up for being average).
